If you want to just setup something for temp files and browser cache, this program is easy and works well.

![]() I've been using ramdisks for a while, as I bought 16 GB back in December when I thought prices were going to be the lowest they ever would. As most decent programs have the ability to save the contents of the ramdisk onto a separate drive, I would usually place my favorite game at the current time in it, granted that certain files or the entire game would be less than 10 GB in size. It's awesome almost having instant loading screens on various games, and with the current price of ram, it's personally worth the cost. (Seems I was testing the ram at lower than rated speeds, oh well, still really fast) Last edited by Novulux; Oct 11, 2012 at 07:09 AM. |

I've moved my browser cache directories and TMP/TEMP env vars to a small ramdisk (370 ish MB). Browsing seems quicker (even compared to a very fast SSD before). Anything else I should move?

A whole bunch of them are discussed here:
http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=107670 I've recently switched to http://www.softperfect.com/products/ramdisk/ which is FREE for 32- and 64-bit and is now (at v3.3.2) the fastest one on benchmarks. I use SSD for speedups but also to REDUCE WRITE TRASHING on SSDs, esp. browser cache etc.

yes, although Intel uses the SSD not the RAM for catching, or as a virtual disk or whatever.

It's not an SSD, it's a super-fast and super-temporary storage. It can be useful, but I mostly just had fun playing with RAMDisks about a year ago. Now I just have plenty of RAM. Advantages/Disadvantages over SSD... it's pretty obvious. RAMdisks are neat things unlike any other things.
1. Move game install into RAMDisk. 2. Create a junction point (http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinks...kshellext.html) in your program files that links to the RAMDisk. 3. W00t

How about this one, it says unlimited RAM can be used and it's free.

This just show how much HD companies slacked off big time. We should have enough had SSD's 10x faster years ago.

The most prohibitve part of SSD's has always been cost. They just recently were able to capitalize on SSD's because they had been making the exact same stuff for Cell Phones and thinner Laptops. Yes they could have made super fast SSD's years ago, but they would have cost tens of thousands of dollars.
