Javaw.exe and the 1.2 GB problem

I think I have a problem. I took notice to this issue when Minecraft kept telling me it was out of memory.

Suggestions? Perhaps time to reinstall Java?

There's only one way to fix Java's problems.

Install Java 64-bit and then run Minecraft using Java 64-bit and the minecraft.jar. Once you have Java 64-bit installed and minecraft.jar where you want to keep it (I use C:\Users\<NAME>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft because it will create that directory anyway), download and run CreateMinecraftShortcut to create a shortcut that will run the correct Java with the correct parameters. Use the link it creates to run Minecraft and the crashes should be gone (assuming you have enough RAM installed in the computer).

Java 32-bit is not large address aware so it is limited to 2 GB of user space. Minecraft uses a ton and Java uses a ton on top of that. Minecraft crashing on 32-bit systems is a frequent problem.

No, actually. I can restart Minecraft and it's back to running out of memory quite quickly.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
