Notifications When Quoted

Getting a little notification when your quoted could remind you of a conversation you were having in a thread, but forgot about it the time it takes between posts. You could be notified just like you do when you get a new comment on your profile, and once you click the link it simply takes you to the post that has you quoted. I would love to see this feature, what do you guys think?

Great idea. However, coding that isnt trivial. Take a look at the mods on www.vbulletin.org and see if there is a similar mod already in existence. If there is, W1z can install it. If not, perhaps someone will step up to the plate. Nice mod idea.

I know this exists on Arlong Park forums

As such, it stands to reason that this exists www.vbulletin.org as well.

This seems to be a VBB 4.x modification, we're still running 3.x

The w1z is wise. VB4 was a disaster on launch, and still after 3 years hasn't delivered on feature and ease of use commitments. I know this because I run a vB4 site and have been through the headaches and upgrade cycles.

Now vB has announced vb5. The vB4 community is totally pxxed off... since most vB resources are now working on vB5 and vB4 is no longer being actively developed. Of course, vB will charge huge upgrade fees to vB5 and probably a new licensing model that leans even more in vB's favour.

I agree with the w1z. Don't change something if it isnt broken.

I am definitely looking forward to VB5, but we'll see how it turns out. They said release "this year"

Really? Wasn't aware!

I take it then that it's not possible to make such a mod for version 3.x?

the line between possible and within the realm of reason is sometimes a bit blurry. i'm sure it's possible but i think unreasonable to expect it to happen.

It is indeed a good feature and one that IP.Board supports.

IPB has it built in. There's a hook for it to even make it update in real time like facebook and insert the number in the title bar.

and vbul 4 has it as well - but for the same reason as with that we are out of luck - we don't use ipb, or vbul4 - as wizz has said he's trying to hold off until the vbul 5 update, which imo is a good idea.

IP.B has a host of other alerts as well. vB5 obviously will have this one, along with a similar featureset to IP.B I should think.
