Possbility of a new laptop
So my macbook pro is seriously not handling what I need anymore.
I usually run a VM or 7 for my networking class, but between the multitasking between the two os's and reading my material and having office as well as a browser or two open, lets just say it moves about as fast as this guy now ![]() Aka it doesn't move, it's dead and slow ![]() so I present to you a challenge. The fastest lightest laptop that can still play some games. Budget - $1200 I am seriously considering the HP-ENVY-Ultrabook-6t-1100 http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/hom...rabook-6t-1100 it seems to fit the requirements but just not sure on the CPU since it's a u version. Thoughts? READY??!! .... and GO!

I dont mind that ultrabook, however a few things i noticed that you are probably aware of already:
-4-cell battery, wont last long doing the things you want this machine too. eg, running vm's, games etc - RAM - How much would you get..?You didnt specify how much as there are several options.if 8GB I approve... =P - With regard to the "U" version you refered too, that is apart of the ulv series, ultra low voltage series of intel processors. On the plus side for you, it is very light, comes with warranty, and is very affordable. Those are my thoughts. =) Cheers |

Yeah I know about the battery, that seems to be it's only real downfall. I was planning 8, I don't really need more, i've dealt with 6 in my i7 desktop for almost 4 years, I can deal with 8 in a new i7 ultrabook.
I know what U means, im just concerned of performance. Is this going to last me 4 more years like my mbp did?

grab a macbook air and throw in 8GB of memory? $99 over the price but comes with a nice screen and a 128gb ssd.
or an asus zenbook prime. Dell XPS 14" looks nice too actually. Last edited by phanbuey; Oct 29, 2012 at 09:23 PM. |

Not to sound too negative, but I dont think it will... it is HP, ive had 3 HPs including a probook, livestrong, and a DV series that have all broken on me. Hinges snapped, weird audio bugs, cheap screens, you name it. Cheap glossy plastic around the display that will scratch if you run a paper towel across it. Overall the worst parts of the machine is everything but the innards.
If you are expecting the build quality of your MBP, don't, you will see what a piece it is the moment you take it out of the box and feel it. My probook actually came visibly bowed. You get what you pay for... I would keep that receipt handy. |

here is my vote:
http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/l...NP700Z5C-S01UB - dedicated gfx, 8gb of ram, 1600x900 screen, monster processor... nice build. Here is a CDW link: http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/Sam...NP700Z5C-S01US Last edited by phanbuey; Oct 29, 2012 at 10:07 PM. |

My brother owns an Acer, my mom owns a Dell, I own a mbp, I've worked at best buy seeing what shit comes in and goes out, hp's are not that bad but they can be. That Samsung defiantly looks very very nice.
GTX640 is appealing since it will beat the 7670, 8gb, 750gb w/8gb fastcache/ssd, seems like a good build! Very much appreciated.
