Lexar Unveils Platinum II Series SDXC Cards in Amazon Clear Packaging

Lexar unveiled the Platinum II series SDXC cards. The cards are packaged in Amazon clear (frustration-free packaging), and are compliant with UHS-I, SD Class-10 standards, with a minimum transfer speed of 10 MB/s, and 30 MB/s maximum. The cards are available in 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB capacities. The three capacities (in the above order) are priced at the equivalent of US $11.4, $21.4, and $49.7, respectively.

If only Google Nexus 4 would have a card slot, I mean, seriously... WTF Google/LG!? And to think that was the perfect phone for me... (dat price!)

8/16 GB models only, not expandable!?!?!?! Less than 32GB on top-tier smartphones should be fucking outlawed...

People that need more than 4 gigs of space on a PHONE should not be allowed to own them. There is absolutely no reason anyone needs to store that much crap on a phone.

I've never had a problem filling up the 16GB of space on mine. It isn't that hard to just dump the videos and crap every couple of days.

It isn't a phone. It is a MP3/Media Player, a digital camera, a digital HD camcorder, an organizer, a tablet, and a portable gaming system. It just happens to also make phone calls. People who have a device that can do all that and don't bother to use it shouldn't be allowed to own them.

Yeah, but I find it ridiculous that in the last 4-5 years, smartphones have done NOTHING to improve on storage, the premiums they're asking for measly improements in storage are ridiculous, especially considering, technology hasn't stood still, just consumer mentality and phone makers have taken FULL
ADVANTAGE of this, to maximize profits. ($100 extra for a 32GB SIII instead of a 16GB, when components/manufacturing costs are less than $10, REALLY!?).

That is specifically why I buy a phone with a card slot. I pick the size at will, not the manufacturer. And I can upgrade it without buying a whole new phone. This is the reason I never bought an iPhone, and I'll never buy any phone without an microSD card slot. However, my point is still that 16GB is enough.

They make a small profit on the phones with lower onboard memory, but sell a ton of them.
They make a large profit on the phones with higher onboard memory, but sell much less than the lower models.
Profit.
They know that people who load up their phones will dig into their pockets for the extra money.
It's not actually necessary to use that much memory, if you're willing to load and unload apps/games as needed, and use cloud storage/streaming services for music, and movies. Manufacturers of products, and providers of services exist to make money from you. If they happen to provide you with some convenience, it's better for everyone. If they require you to pay for the convenience, it's because they know there are enough people who will pay, and that's all that matters to them.
It's always a good idea to look at the bigger picture, at everything that shapes decisions and actions before deciding to spout righteous outrage.
