well you can use a 7850/70/90 or 7970/90
and it's called Crossfire for AMD cards NOT SLI

Your motherboard is compatible with crossfire and Bo$$ is wrong.
You can't crossfire with 7950, 7970 or 7990.
You can crossfire with any other HD 7850 or 7870. 7890 does not exist.

I would suggest you to get a HD 7850. Any brands/models are compatible.

For crossfire you need another HD7850. You have the 2GB version? Your motherboard will run the first PCI-e slot at x16 and the second at x4. You will loose some performance compared with cards running at x8 x8. What CPU do you have and what PSU? At what resolution is your monitor?

So, do you have a 7850 with 2GB or 1GB? I'm asking because if you pair one with 1GB with one with 2GB you will end up with 1GB VRAM.

But for that resolution I don't think another 7850 would be of much help. Do you have some problems in particular games?

Does your power supply have enough connectors for a 2nd video card? Does it have enough power?

I checked, 2 12V rails 22A each, 600W rated so It's enough for two 7850. The question is can an FX6100 drive two 7850 at 1360x786 resolution? Or the performance increase will be minimal if any?

No point in spending money on another CPU if your main purpose is gaming. That FX6100 is just fine. If you need some extra power you can overclock it. Also overclock further you 7850. For that monitor resolution I say what you have now is optimal. First get the games you plan to play, see if they work for your liking and then maybe consider adding another card. Either way I'd say a nice monitor would suit you better and a single overclocked 7850 can play most of today's games on high settings on an 1080p monitor.

Ah yes thank you for correcting me, I haven't checked the new crossfire setup since the 4XXX series where mixing was all good
