Microsoft Working on Xbox Surface, 7-inch Gaming Tablet

It looks like Razer's reluctance over Project Fiona may have cost it some potential market share, and it's going to have to face mighty Microsoft in the upcoming gaming tablet market segment. Redmond plans to fuse its Xbox and Surface product lines to create the Xbox Surface, a 7-inch tablet designed for gaming. There's not much information on how Microsoft will handle input, but we're guessing that in addition to its multi-touch screen, Microsoft could bundle a wireless Xbox 360 controller. The tablet itself could be designed with buttons and thumb-sticks. The 7-inch 16:9 screen of the Xbox Surface features a native resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (720p). Driving the tablet is an ARM-based SoC, though it's possible that Microsoft could decide to use an Intel x86 chip. The ARM processor is backed by high-bandwidth memory. The new tablet is most likely slated for 2013.

I wouldn't mind a tablet if it actually had some decent gaming capabilities. I'm not sure what this will handle, but if it's a viable option for on the go gaming, I'd consider it.

From what it sounds like in terms of specs

I don't like the SCSI 10k drive idea. Should just be a 32 or 64GB SSD.

Having a tablet that is a portable gaming platform would be an awesome replacement for a PS Vita.

Yeah a 10k rpm drive in a mobile device wont last long, pretty sure it will end up being an SSD.

That looks like the specs for the next Xbox I don't see how you can cram all that into a tablet unless I'm reading it wrong

Reread the specs the little 7 line section in the top left corner.

No the tablet is an addon for the xbox kind of like you can do with the PSP, but likely better.

SCSI tells me they're fake. No way they'd use SCSI. They'd also never use a 10K RPM HDD. 5400 RPM is far more likely and even that doesn't make much sense in a tablet.

It's not in the tablet. Reread the spec sheet bro.

So they're going for a bit of a Wii U thing here?
The specs of the main unit look great, it might actually stand a chance against pc. Now that ATI gpu... It gets me thinking, if ps3 has crunching, why can't xbox have it now?

Glad I wasn't the only one that thought this. Who bets that this will be able to "interact" with the new xbox just like the WiiU does/will?
