SEAL Team Six Disciplined For Helping EA On Medal of Honor: Warfighter

Developers of military-based videogames are always looking to real-life soldiers to help give their games more of a realistic feel. Unfortunately, things haven’t turned out so well for a group of Navy SEALs who lent a hand to EA.

According to a report from CBS News, members of the secretive counter-terrorism team sometimes referred to as “SEAL Team Six” have been disciplined for revealing secrets to EA to help with development of Medal of Honor: Warfighter. (You may know the name SEAL Team Six as one of the groups that took part in the assassination of Osama bin Laden.)

Supposedly, the seven active members of the team worked as paid consultants for EA over two days during the spring and summer, during which they are accused of using classified material they had received from the Navy. In addition, four other members who have since transferred out of SEAL Team Six are also under investigation.

CBS noted that “the seven who have been punished so far all received letters of reprimand which would kill their chances for promotion. They also had half their pay taken away for two months.”

I think it has less to do with seal tim six helping them and more to do with the fact that despite seal team six helping them MoH Warfighter is retardly unrealistic and generally just a piece of shit game. See here.

What kind of data can anyone leak to a game that's using auto heal and is not a simulation in any way? I'd sort of understand if it was something like Rainbow 6 kind of a game (Rogue Spear or Raven Shield) which were actual tactical games with high levels of realism. But current EA titles? C'mon!?

You'd think troops with elite training like the SEALs have would be smart enough to pick a decent game to be associated with if they're going to sell out.

Why do they call them Seal Team Six? Better to call the organization DEVGRU.

They know the risks associated with this. I am no longer in the service, but to this day I could get in a lot of trouble if they think I might have leaked information, even if it was to help make a GI Joe toy.

An LOR kills promotion chances? This is news to me seeing how I got one and got promoted haha. Smells of a pr stunt as paperwork at the lor level doesn't warrant a press release

That is what I was thinking cause LOR is like just a counseling statement in the army. I seen a Sgt get a Article 15 and still make SSG.

Air Force its just a letter that goes in your pif for a year then goes away. So I assume it's the same in the navy..

A counseling statement in the army never expires while you serve unless you have access to your packet and a good shredder LOL

There are several types of LORs, the worst being a General Letter of Reprimand (AKA GOMOR). If you got promoted after receiving one as you claimed, you got a lesser version that never made it into your fiche (or was kept in the restricted section of your personnel file). GOMORs are "career killers" especially if you are an Officer or an NCO.

It was likely tactical information--stuff the Navy would consider classified. They should have known better than to consult a corporation when they are still active duty soldiers.

I think if these SEALS were paid what they are worth they would have been more likely to not venture into making some money on a video game. Apparently they did give out a little too much information and their behavior was un SEAL like but I think the Government shouldn't have punished these guys for just trying to make a living. It's really not like they are criminals. I'm glad they didn't get kicked out are are still allowed to kick ass in their chosen profession. I wish the best for these guys.

I guess that shows how bright they are.

Great idea to tell all the jihadi,s which game to play to find out tactical info lol.

Regardless if youre AD/Reserve/Guard or Veteran, any info that is considered certain classifications cannot be disclosed.
