One last endeavour for you geniuses..

Thanks for all the help lately with my build guys, much appreciated.
Now though I'm facing a more serious problem. My HD7970 is failing to post.

Specs:
3930k
Asus Rampage IV Extreme
4GB ddr3 generic ram (my corsair vengeance hasn't arrived yet)
AX850 Corsair
Crucial M 512GB
Cosmos II
H100
Asus Xonar

The GPU does not give a signal to my monitor. I've had to use my aging HD4870 to access the bios. The card still shows signs of life though.. The fans run and the power LEDs respond when the 6+2 pin connectors are attached/de-attached.

Troubleshooting so far:
Motherboard BIOS updated to latest version.
HD 7970 tried in multiple slots unsuccessfully.
PCI-E red control box (RIVE feature) all on.
All 6+2 pins have been tested and work correctly.
HD 4870 posts and works.
HD 7970 tried in old system (different PSU too) no monitor signal.
The card does not show up in bios GPU post but HD 4870 does.

There is a red led where 'boot device' is on the motherboard (which is directly above the VGA led) if this helps.

one last test. try to see if you can hook a second monitor up to the card and run a second desktop on it with your primary 4870 running the main desktop if it doesnt do it RMA

Are you sure your connecting the power to the card right? You say about the 6+2pin power cable but i thought all these 7970's needs 1x8pin and 1x6pin, I know mine needs both power cables for it to work.

@Solaris - I'll give that a go in a bit.
@Jetster - Good suggestion didn't even think of that. Didn't work though unfortunately. Card is the Asus HD 7970 DCII.
@animal - Yep. Both power LEDs on the card are green. There are two 6+2 pin pci-e inputs on the card. It attaches as 8 pin but 2 pins are slightly separate on the pci-e cable, I'm assuming they're ground cables.
