AMD APU Low profile HTPC
Sup guys, trying to build a super low budget htpc, lowest form factor possible, running an AMD APU FM2 (quad core preferred), with 1866 speed 4-8gb ram, dont need an ssd as i already have one, and i need a case that can fit a second 2.5inch HDD(also need prices on those).
certainly interested in passive tiny cases as long as they arent above £80, non passive is fine, just need this thing as small as possible without the chances of it exploding from heat. Looking for a case and a heatsink that are incredibly low profile and can fit the 100w tdp of the A8 5600 I can pretty much price match anything from ccl online and dabs.com EDIT: Something like this - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...84&subcat=2249 Chosen Parts so far: AMD A8-5600 Cheers!

A8-5600, I just built two systems, and with a passive cooling device and down clocking you could have an entirely silent system, or overclock it and play games too.
I thought the heatsinks were jokes at first, but they really aren't, and I am not even close to sure where they get the 100W TDP from, to me it seems more like 50W, OCCT only ran the CPU up to 48C while it was running full speed and the GPU was overclocked to 900Mhz

Thermaltake Element Q
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=CA-131-TT All APUs require an active heatsink unless you want to put in a massive one, so I think you are better off with a small active one. |

currently looking at something like this, though unsure as to whether the heatsink on the oem processor will fit.

I don't know what a TFX PSU is and I don't really want to touch it either lol. The rest looks fine, but personally I wouldn't use an APU for HTPC since you will most probably leave it turned on most of the time and APUs don't exactly idle well.

I did find a CIT mATX tower with a 300w power supply, and ive used one of their PSU's before (cheap and tacky, but as long as you're not running a gfx card theyre actually reliable)

![]() When the shit power supply of my parent's pc died the first thing it took out was the 56k modem (yeah that was along time ago), and luckily we recognised and replaced before it took out anything more. Still runs Win98 to this day (not that anyone use it anymore)
