Build opinions.
Hey guys I need a quick opinion on my new build I'm looking to do.
Please note I will be using parts from my current PC to save money. Recycled parts: RAM: Kingston HyperX T1 KHX2133C9AD3T1FK4/8GX (4x2GB) DDR3, will this cause any issues? PSU: Silverstone Strider Plus 1000W GPU: 2 x Gigabyte 7970's Factory overclocked Case: Coolermaster HAF X Removed. See down thread for updated list

I dont know if you are going to overclock it but looking at the processor and the cooler which you are going to buy, its feels like buying a Ferrari with the lowest octane petrol (bottlenecking)
get a better cooling is what I will recommend recommending something like http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=17961 corsair just released the new h100i which is so much better than the old h100 I'll definitely look for thate |

I would recommend something like http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=17961
remember corsair just released the new h100i which is alot better than the older version, the one in the link above is the old version the new one you can check here Corsair H100i CPU Liquid Cooler Unboxing & First L... you might wanna wait for that if youre not in hurry

The least you want to look at is
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=18927 this thing performs as one of the best air cooling product though I dont really fancy the color

Besides you might wanna consider THIS for your motherboard, I am no expert in 2011 socket but I've heard alot of x79 motherboard made some weird whining noise on load and the one that survives the whining noise is the one I've given you the link above
you might wanna watch this, he's my tech guru ![]() Personal Rig Update 2012 Part 9 Finding the Perf... He ended up using the mobo I recommended above Moreover IMHO I would not do 60x unless you know for sure you want the extra 100 mhz for the extra $400-$500 you can just grab the 3930K and invest more on RAM, putting 16GB in total to not bottlenecking the system Since money isnt an issue after you've saved so much on the CPU, I would grab 2x256gb SSD and put them on raid 0. Make sure you have another hard drive like WD caviar edition to do back up from time to time Last edited by jokrik; Nov 22, 2012 at 07:49 AM. |

You should just go closed loop liquid cooling, like the H100, its the way to go with your specs.
This is the comp I just built from pc case gear.

How about this... Read the first post if you're wondering why it's missing parts

Yeah I thought about it, but 700 dollars AUD is really starting to push 2.5k which is a bit much, I might have to buy it in seperate parts over time or something

Just my 2 cents.
I think you're wasting money on the i73970X. The 3930K is so close in performance and about half the price. I mean, if you really want it, then get it but in real world use I don't think you'd notice the performance advantage. Then again, you can come back and say, why even bother with SB when you can save even more and get an IB platform? Does the 6 physical cores actually matter? 4 is enough for almost all applications. If you do massively threaded work, sure, go SB but I'd still say get the 3930. Here's a good review of the 3970X. Of great note is that 'closed loop cooling' (water) is recommended for the 150W TDP. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...k,3348-15.html

Yeah I've decided to roll back to the 3930k after looking at speeds and stuff.
So far I have this Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 LGA2011 CPU Cooler Intel Core i7 3930K ASRock X79 Professional Motherboard Corsair Dominator GT CMT16GX3M4X2133C9 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 From my current build Ill take WD Caviar black 1TB HDD 2 Gigabyte 7970's 1000/4400 Silverstone Strider 1000w PSU Coolermaster HAF X case

If you play certain games you'll notice the SSD load speeds - BF3 is a good example. I'm on map shooting people* while my mates with HDD's are still loading. *I'm lying - I'm the one being shot ![]() EDIT: sorry i see a Samsung SSD in the OP. That still going in?

Honestly, I've been pretty happy with my 3820. I don't think 2 more cores would help me a whole lot except on multi-threaded benchmarks and the few multi-threaded apps I write myself.

remember some ssd such as samsung 830 has different spec on each of their capacity. the 128gb has read speed of 520MB/s and write of 320MB/s while 256gb version one has the same 520MB/s read but 400MB/s write speed. So if you want full speed get the 256gb, besides I've heard that you really cant use more than 70% of your total ssd capacity since it would slow em down like alotLove your choice on the dominator, but Im pretty sure you would do even better if you get the corsair h100 than those air cooling one. Whats holding you back on getting the h100? |
