New Steam Beta feature for SSD users?

Not sure if anyone has noticed this or if I have been out of the loop as I haven't bought any new games in a long time, but I am opted into the Steam beta client and I just noticed this today:

Looks like we might now be able to install the actual Steam program on our small SSDs and keep the games on another drive after all without using junction points. My SSD is undergoing RMA right now but I think I'll use this feature when I reinstall as Steam is probably the longest loading program at startup for me.

Not exactly news, as it has been there for some time. Anyway good to remember it to the people. And a good option with or without ssd.

It is for all users and has been there for a bit as mentioned. However doesn't work on all games, only a few so far for me which sucks.

Thanks guys, sorry if it was old news, but I'm sure some people like myself may have been unaware of it (don't install games often and/or backup/restore their library via copying the Steam folder).

I too was unaware of it. Great news mate! I've always been scared of running out of space on my ssd if I were to install steam on it. Thanks again for the news

I moved my Steam install to another drive ages ago when this feature didn't exist and I had to hack it a bit (I used the official Steam hack at the time). At over 300GB with only some of my games installed, it was a very good idea. All my games work fine like this, though.

This feature has been a long time coming.

Actually it's not exactly a feature for SSD users but more for those who managed to fill up the largest single HDD available. But yeah, users of small SSD's can use it to installs tuff elsewhere.
