as someone whose just come home from a 9hr shift which pretty much consisted of non-stop patrols.

I find this shit hilarious and has made my day.

As people have already said - TPU only really holds your email address... no personal details like credit card numbers, social security numbers or bank details were stored on this server.

And if you were stupid enough to use the same password on TPU as you would on TPU then who is more pathetic? TPU getting hacked which is something that cannot be controlled or the idiot who thought it was a great idea to use the same login details for all of his logins?

Im guessing you have multiple user accounts so It would be a waste of my time for lambasting you for making literally zero posts since your join date in 2010. though there are members here who are able to track you and find out which I.P logs into which account so you cant hide anyway.

If you are going to be a complete moron about it then feel free to go ahead and leave. I doubt you have contributed much on these forums that your presence would be deeply missed.

Me on the other hand - wouldnt call myself overly popular on these forums but Ive made an effort and contributed where and when i can. Who knows if people miss me when im not around??

What personal information? There is a username, password and an e-mail adress (the latter is probably on your Facebook account (if you have one) as well, perhaps even in plain sight on a public profile page.

Then don't sign up for Facebook, don't use PayPal and never do any online bank or CC transaction (all much more dangerous than this forum). It is also in the terms of service and I believe it is among the first ten internet rules. What is given to the internet stays with the internet (I think it is rule #1).

In your case maybe not (you only posted 2 times) but generally it is troublesome because if 1 person's messages get removed it generally means that there will be tens or even hundreds of "holes" in conversations so that if people with similar questions read the topic to solve their issue may posibbly not understand anything of what's written. It is not a software bug, it is how things work.

Just in case I will repeat the first part of my retort:

Just change your damn password and stop making a fool of yourself.

As a 7 year IT veteran, I use pretty similar login information. It can be pretty difficult when you have literally over 30 accounts that require login credentials.

But the chance that anyone will be able to track any of my other information down, or what I use that information for, would be very difficult and probably impossible. And even if they were able to obtain all of my information, there is no damage they could do or information they could get that couldn't be handled in less than an hour.

After about 13+ years of using accounts online and whatnot, not a single incident has happened to me except blizzard information being hacked (they said use a stronger password than last time. My password was 14 characters long, with uppercase, special characters, and numbers in the mix. Be careful with Blizzard, they just don't seem to care,)

Probably the most retarded thing i've seen posted here in a long time. None of your personal information is here save for maybe you're email address which i don't believe was really compromised. You're name, phone number, social.. anything actually important doesn't even exist. Accounts can't be deleted, you should have understood the risk of using a computer system when you ... turned on your computer... as no system is 100% failsafe and there is always the risk. Good day.. i thank you for not posting anymore, one less stupid comment from an uneducated individual.

You know from time to time people have a reason to wipe themselves from the net. Changing passwords and email addresses is one thing but it won't erase your username or posts. It is pretty annoying account deletion isn't a standard option on all forums. At the least there should be an option to mass delete posts and change your user name if entry removal is really so difficult.

I am not a computer genius or anything close to it, but jeez, some of the posters in this thread need an "how the Internet works, for dummies" book.

To those people, you can also check your email from ANY computer in the world.

I have meet a college graduate that thought he had to be at his work computer to check his work related email. I have come across other adults that said they could only check their email from their home.

TPU isn't FB (thank goodness) so there isn't a pile of personal info here to be compromised, other then our computer specs, that are public anyway.

@m6soto... get over it and move on. Blame the jackers; as, they are the problem in this case.
Make it your life long ambition to make them pay for this offense... goto work for some internet task force or such.

This poor thread needs closure.

vBulletin needs some simple function, just like "register", called "deregister". What does it do? Turns off the account. Can no longer post. Other users see the person has left and don't expect answers. (Status: deregistered). All messaging is stopped. Email and password is deleted from database. However, POSTS remain, as does the username in the user database. The username cannot be reused.

This can be functionally replicated with what w1z suggested earlier in the thread, ie. fill in the email with nonsense and manually delete anything you want removed. However, it is more elegant to have a deregister function, just as you have unsubscribe to mailing lists, just as you deregister with the various authorities when you move house etc. etc.

However, users should bang on at the forum software developers to implement this, not the forum admins themselves, who bought the software with fixed functionality.

In fact, there is an add-on for vbulletin http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=161335

It's such a bleedin' obviously reasonable feature that you wonder why this isn't standard across all forum sofware?

Also, it will tend to put off the drama queens who love to flounce around proclaiming "I'm leaving!!!" then continue bitching on in the forum until a mod bans them.

Indeed, let's not blame the admins.

Nice comparison. But it is common for people who login/logout to many different sites (forums, email providers etc)...

Just because it's common doesn't mean it's wise.
