Office Space - Intel Celeron E3300 or AMD5000B

Hey

Last occasion to grind out a shitty computer. Damn crisis blocks everything in corporations.
This is what I can choose from :

Dell Optiplex GX 780 DT; Intel Celeron Dual Core E3300 (2.5GHz); RAM 2048MB (1x2048MB); HDD 160GB; Napęd DVD+/-RW; Mysz Optyczna USB; Klawiatura USB; wraz z usługą dostawy i instalacji.

Dell Optiplex 740MLK DT; Athlon X2 5000B (2.6 GHz); RAM 2GB; HDD 250GB; Napęd DVD+/-RW; Głośniki; Mysz Optyczna USB; Klawiatura USB;

Seems that AMD looks better in benchmarks but I have these good memories from s775 intel stuff. What would you suggest? I generally run SQL clients and general office stuff.

The E3300 is a marginally faster CPU and the AMD rig has a bigger HDD.

Take your pick really.... you wont notice much difference.

Personally, I'd chose the Intel rig.

That also takes all (afaik) 775 CPU's, so if you stumble upon a cheap quad you can put that there.

AMD is never been good at excel, not that it matters realy, if it takes 0.345 seconds longer to do it then intel its nothing to write home about.

I dont even know how they benchmark excel? its just numbers :S

Okay, so it is basically newer Celeron (LGA775) versus an older (939?) Athlon X2? That explains a lot. I misread the OP a bit and thought about the AM2 Athlons (gen II).

What I have seen with my company, they offer either a slow laptop or slow desktop BUT I was allowed to order a SSD under my department and they imaged the machine when it arrived. Much more speed now doing documents and such.

Ahh ok its the older X2 fair enough, yea they where "ok" for there time but once Conroe came out it was a different story.

Go with the Intel based system then, looks alot better for office use.
