What is the default temperature at which 6990 will shut down?
I have this guy telling me his 6990 runs at 110C degrees (after 3 minutes) when fan is working at 100%.
I'm thinking that's not possible. It would shut down PC or his video signal would die. But I need to know from someone with experience. I never run these cards so hot. Edit: the guy is on eBay. I sold him a sealed card and I think he is trying to screw me. Says he can prove me wrong with a video, but it has been a long time and he has not delivered any kind of proof. Just opened a case against me and tried to waist my time. He doesn't even want to return the card, just wants $100, as if that would fix anything.

At 110c it should most definitely be shutting down already. Sounds like a scammer to me, especially with no proof. The asking for a hundred bucks is a sure sign of a scam.

Scam, don't send the $100 to him, as he's just trying to recoup some money, likely threatening negative feedback. I've come to hate eBay for anything more than a small purchase, like a movie...
If he's opened a case, eBay will tell him to return the card for a refund (which they can do, making you refund the purchase cost) or to keep it. |

Well, he currently threatens me with escalation of the case, but I told him to go ahead and do it.
I'm confident that I would win, considering all of the facts and my history on eBay. My main fear is that, if forced to return, he will return the wrong card to me.

The good thing is you don't have to refund the money until you receive the returned item.
When the box arrives, video tape yourself opening it, so if it is the wrong card you can prove that the box you received was sealed, and if you open it and it is the wrong card you have proof he sent you the wrong card. Also, when you give your side to ebay, tell them the item was sealed and is under the manufacturer warranty. He should take any issues he has with the card up with the manufacturer, not you.

Your best bet is to call eBay and speak to a rep, it works much better. The service is usually quick and competent, and you'll get much better service than just dealing with t automates system. I'd do that tonight. Explain in full detail the situation: brand new card, what happened, what he's saying doesn't actually happen, he won't prove it.... Talk and get their take, and that'll help you to know where to go and how to deal with it. |

Sure that isn't 110F, as in Fahrenheit?

Graphics cards can operate at those temps. CPUs, not so much. Not advised if something can be done to stop it though.

he says he runs the fan at 100% and he has the card outside of the case (with a long pci-e cable running to the slot, not sure why)

In the new threat to escalate the case, this guy promises (once again) a video that would prove me wrong. But this time he promises to show only 100/105*C. Who wants to see 110*C? That would be so boring...

I would tell him to bugger off. Had someone do something similar with a GTX295 to me. Ebay took the money anyway...luckily the genius screwed up and didn't send proper shipping information to Ebay and they reveresed it yet again and made it so he couldn't open another case.

Well, he gave up... Never showed any proof and after a couple days of silence he just closed the case.

Mmmm... No! I tried selling some things on TPU and they ended up sitting for EVER!
They sell much faster on eBay for higher price.
