Can I run the Corsair H70 fanless?

I have connected the pump to the fan header, and the radiator fan to the another fan header, the pc runs fine at temps max at 47C° on full with hot room, so the h70 is doing its job fine, however the noise, even tou is a lot less then the stock amd fan, I still hearing it like when at 2:57am when everything is quiet, If I stop the fan the noise gets down just enough to hear the other components better.

I don't know what exactly is causing the noise on my computer I think are the HDs, the fan from the powersupply (2x) are running at low speed everything is low even the video card epcept when is running a game it goes up a little, but not to 100%, I'm planning buying a ARCTIC Accelero S1 Plus for it so is running passive cooling but that won't be until january.

The old H series coolers have super noisy fans, everyone i know with them has replaced the fans for silent i pressure models (i use cougar's high pressure ridged fans, and i barely hear them). Yes you could run the cooler fanless, but i dont advise it, temps will obviously be massively higher, as there is nothing much blowing air across the radiator - it would be plain pointless in fact. Just buy a single new high static pressure fan that has low decibels...

the fan I have according to a post on tomshardware has these specs:

the CFM on mine compared to the specs of a quiet edition pressure fan on newegg is:

does this means that the fan on newegg is a little less noiser but expells 32% less air. Is my current fan good enough then?

I would complain about a fan that has anything less than 30db, then you start to sacrifice genuinely good performance for noise that not many people would notice. I usually recommend something by scythe or noctua.
my gfx fans hit 42 decibels, but i use a headset so it doesnt bother me. If your single h70 fan is actually 25db (which i somehow doubt at high load), then i doubt that is what you can hear.
I dont know why you need it so quiet, but when it comes to gaming, passive cooling isnt going to cut it with high end components at a hardcore level. Honestly, my cougar turbine 120's I never hear, even when i leave the damn thing crunching.
Scythe Gentle Typhoons, Cougar's high CFM turbines, and check out Noctua (I have had no experience with such, but heard great stuff about them), BeQuiet, are all brands you should check into. Bare in mind you can leave that processor to cook into the high 50's

same rule applies for CPU and your GPU: passive is a big nono. just replace the fans with large, low RPM models (or at least low noise) and set them to certain voltages you like. i hate variable RPM fans, and always hardwire mine to 7V or 10V

I run 110CFM deltas at 5V and get really good results without alot of noise. SilenX fans seem to be really good for airflow and being quiet.

Short answer, no.


Long answer, you can't run a cooler without transferring heat somewhere. All current coolers require air flow, in order to transfer heat away from them. The cooler might be a liquid loop, but that radiator still requires air to vent heat.

If you remove the fan you have a very inefficient venting. The radiator doesn't transfer heat, and just recirculates warm fluid. How warm the fluid gets can be contended, but the reality is that these coolers aren't designed to work without a fan.



All of this said, the H series had some pretty crap fans. Annoyingly loud, with a surprisingly high price tag. My experience is that even cheap fans beat out the H series performance. You should just spend $10 on a decent replacement fan.

I used to be a very big fan of SilenX. Back when I was running my Asetek External WC Unit I replaced all the fans with 120mm SilenX's. Now granted they are pretty old now but ALL 4 of them basically fell apart. Basically the "hubs" detached from the frame. The Irony of that is what I replaced were pretty "industrial" Adda fans Asetek were using. 2 of those are now my primary fans in my case. I have bought Noctua's, Akasa Apache's but those "turbine" Adda's always win for pushing the most air. I play in 5.1 so while they howl away at 2000 rpm they still get the job done.

Since going turbines, I've always bought similar such fans as well.

No joke these are as "generic turbines" as you can get but they still run great and have always beaten out any fan I have tried to replace them with.
Tho after trying to track them down and finding that website they certainly aren't cheap...
