However, the card not responding to any voltage increase at all is what I was referring to as being unusual given the relatively low ASIC quality. But then, combining the, already mentioned, multifactorial nature of overclocking with the good old fashioned luck of draw argument probably puts things back into perspective. |

My VaporX 7950 is 86.3% and overrclocks like a champ beating out some OC 7970's and 680's

![]() Don't care beans about the smell, unless something were to smell burnt, which it doesn't. I've always hated those pine scented car fresheners, since you seem intent on paralleling it to car maintenance terminology. ![]() Again, not cost effective to pay return shipping AND a restocking fee just to take a chance that I'll get something with a higher ASIC, uh ASIC q-u-a-l-i-t-y rating, on the same model, or pay quite a bit more for a Vapor-X or something, that again, may or may not be binned higher leakage wise. I'll just have to chalk this up to bad luck and be content with the fact that I only paid $330 for it. Even if only run at the stock 1000 OC, it's still a fairly good deal, until the 8870 comes out and equals it's performance for a rumored $280. Then again, even if that IS the case, I'll have had several months worth of use on this one before that happens. Last edited by Frag Maniac; Dec 10, 2012 at 01:49 AM. |

i have a 68.6 and it oc higher out of 3 cards i had
they where ref. cards and even on the stock cooler at 100% fan speed i could bench it at 1300Mhz @ 1.3v in MSI AB but thats from my experience and the other two where higher % i think in the 80's |

Probably depends a lot on fan speed, case thermal efficiency and ambient temps, but thanks for the input. Yours sounds like one of the more atypical results but I won't treat it as invalid.

Even if just buying the WB and adding the GPU into an existing loop I tend to think would be questionable as far as cost effectiveness. |

CF/SLI are not something everyone would consider risk free either, multi-gpu based systems have a host of other issues, especially the micro stutter can be unbearable for some. At least with water cooling you are guaranteed a quiet system.
Though, it's all subjective at that point as preferences and requirements can vary widely. |

This is why i don't look at the ASIC of the cards I buy. I just overclock the card the old fashioned way and be happy with it.

Although in all fairness I can't get my card to clock for anything, but I'm hoping that's a power issue... Soon find out when I get that other rig from MoonPig and swap the PSU's :P

I always smell my GFX cards when they come out of the box. If they do not smell like cheap beer or hookers then its a auto return and a swift call to the packing manager at newegg
