I'd pick the 7970 and overclock it to a Ghz edition or higher. The 7970 Ghz beats the 680 in most benches with the new drivers. Check out W1zz's latest review on the 7870 and see the performance of the 7970 ghz over the 680. Plus it has more Vram.

So in the end there was no stock on any 7970 below 400 Euro at my local store, so I picked up the stock clocked Asus DCII 670, and am exceedinly pleased with it, running 1006mhz base clock (boosts to 1124-1137) and 6600mhz memory with no voltage adjustment and I think I'll leave it just there for the time being, what a fast card!

In the end I got what I wanted too, and it's hard to make someone happy with something they didn't want to buy, so the 670 might lose a few fps here or there to a 7970 (and win some) but I have more peice of mind, not to mention coming from an Nvidia card it was essentially plug and play and I'm back to Farcry!

I'm glad you made this choice. Indeed, some games work better with the 670 and you also can enjoy nice physX (I know someone will tell me it's worthless). The difference is so minimal between the 2 cards at 1080p that I think you must measure the 2-3 frames difference to see who's really winning. Enjoy your games!
