Sapphire 7950

Just purchased a bricked card very cheaply with the seller saying the fan spins but no signal to the monitor, in case it would work in my PC.

PN 299-IE207-000SA

Model here

When I got the card it did the same thing (on both bios switch settings) so switched to onboard gfx and force-flashed a few bioses (biosi?). The closest match was the 810mhz sapphire on this site but it didn't work. I finally got it to work with the Flex dual X bios posted by Techtu in this thread, and was delighted! However after working fine for a day or so (including gaming tests) at decent temps, the card showed the old symptoms again and now refuses to send a signal after further bios reflashing.

I'm now guessing the card is faulty - if I rule out my m/b & psu because it did the same thing with the previous owner, plus the fact that bios 2 doesn't work.... but if anybody has any suggestions or more bios's to try I'd very much appreciate your help!

I almost wish it hadn't worked at all...I think it's taunting me!

I would inspect the board very closely for anything that could be easily repaired. I once had a 7900GS that I dropped onto my case, and wouldnt work. Heavy artifacting and barely showing a picture. After a close inspection of the card itself, one of the power regulating modules were stripped off, probably happened after I dropped it. After drawing a line on the card with a pencil, the card worked for a full year until I got rid of it with no issues whatsoever.

(this was when the 7900GS was quite the expensive card, ~2006)

It was a midrange card upon release...the high end was 7900gt and 7900gtx.

MSRP was around $200 at the time iirc. I remember I picked 3 up on w00t upon release for $140 each and flipped em (8/23/2006).

It maxed out everything I threw at it, course I was only gaming at 1024x768.

The 7950 was actually the boss at the time, and had an MSRP of $299. Cards are more expensive now than they were then (the 7950 GT was equivalent to the 7970/680 now, whos MSRP was much higher.)

The 7900GS was akin to what the 7870 LE (joker card) is today in many ways. It was the most high-end card I ever had.

OP: can you send some high-res pictures to us? preferably from a DSLR?

7900GTX was the boss... it beat out the 7950GT handily. For all intents and purposes, it was a 7900gt with more memory and a higher reference clock speed or a 7800GTX with lower memory speed (but same G71 core used, same rops/textures etc).

Do the people in this thread realize he's talking about a Radeon card, hence the reason it's posted under AMD?

Do you post anything under the subject of a thread or just ridicule titles and OT posts? That said, thanks for bringing it back on topic...

Unfortunately my DSLR had a strong disagreement with the sea off the coast of Fiji earlier this year. It lost. I'll do my best with a little snap-shooter I've got somewhere and report back tomorrow, thanks again for taking the time.
