If you can get a lens for under $100, I'd say that might be your best bet: again, my only complaint with my Panasonic is that I can't change lenses, so the G3 takes care of that for you.

My brother is a photographer (small samples: http://www.flickr.com/search/?w=all&...drigues&m=text), and he just told me that if you want the best DSLR possible for the price, that would be the Nikon D3100. He owns a much more expensive D700, but D3100 offers great image quality, in the same level as most DSLR's. Interchangeable lens with lots of options and a really good color depth. Only problem i can see with this camera is the screen resolution, but for a beginner (presumably) and hardware pictures, it's satisfactory.

In Amazon i saw the D3100 + lens with a $409 price tag, not long ago. And there you can save some bucks with select Nikon lenses.

Alright bring this thread back from the dead. Looking at Cameras again, and found this Canon I liked for the price.

Canon PowerShot SX500 IS Black Approx. 16.0 MP 30X...

And just so everyone stops recommending SLR cameras. Im just looking at Point and shoot cameras so.

Oh and I don't plan on getting close macro pictures that are less then 5 inches away so.
