Gtx 680.
Hi guys, i've been planning to upgrade from my gtx 460 sli to a single beast card. My friends have told me to upgrade to gtx 670 (only about 30-25% better than my sli'd 460s).
A gtx 670 is aroudn 400, while gtx 680 is around 500. I managed to find a good deal on an asus gtx 680 dcu2 TOP, and i also found another gigabyte gtx 670 wind forcex3 OC. Now the question is, should i get the 680 or the 670? I still have the i5 760 2.8ghz @3.4ghz. Would either of these cards bottleneck my processors? Or would i be just fine? |

Must it be nvidia?
Because you can get a 7970 for $380, which is now a bit better then the GTX670 and 680 SAPPHIRE 100351SR Radeon HD 7970 3GB 384-bit GDDR5...

The reason why i like nvidia is because of physx, and well i've always used nvidia. What makes the 7970 better?

And the 7970 is cheaper for on par if not better performance.

Could you help me find a benchmark/review of the 7970's new driver against gtx 680s/670s. And honestly i think right now, AMD might release that driver. But nvidia wont just let them cake it like that. Im sure Nvidia will come up with something to push their cards above. AMD rushes too early into comebacks when competing with nvidia.
Well then lets jsut say, generally in certain games AMD might out perform Nvidia. But i dount AMD will have the upper hand when crysis 3 comes out. |

Both 670 and 680 are good but terribly overpriced. Sometimes people will buy nVidia just cause its nVidia>AMD in their mind. PhysX is indeed a gimmick used by 10-20 big titles in the past few years, not to mention that games like Metro 2033 can have full PhysX even with AMD card (CPU does the job but its very taxing).
Right now it is beter to buy an 7970 (either Ghz edition or not cause they are the same) and clock is at 1125Mhz (the max slide amount in MSI AB) without increasing the voltage. That personally gives me over 11000 3dMark11 points with an i7 930@4Ghz. When you look at review benchmarks have in mind that nVidia cards dont overclock so much, cause basically AMD set their clocks too low in the 7000 series to make sure that all cards will work. So overclocking an 7970 is standard procedure if you buy one, its a waste of potential to not simply max out the Mhz slide. EDIT: of course wether u buy a 670, 680 or 7970 the difference in performance is actually small with a single monitor. I mean... if u get around +-15% on these cards depending on the game, why not just buy the card that is 200$ cheaper? At the current price of a GTX680 DCii in the UK you can also buy 2x7950 in Xfire... i mean lol... |

Its over priced, thats why im getting it off black market, with full warranty but no tax. The problem for me is though, would any of the card bottle neck? 7970? 670? 680? i have i5 760@3.4ghz and 8gb rams 1.3mhz but oc'd to 1.6

I think with an old i5 and 3.4ghz the 670 is already enough. If you can get the 670 at a logical price (i.e. same or lower price than a 7970) then its good. Otherwise just no reason apart from being a green camp fan (nothing bad with that if u have the money).

Crysis 3 is still in early dev. I bet those FPS value will go +50% a few months after the game is released. Of course, if u have seen Crysis 3 gameplay vids then u can understand why the high end cards are barely doing the job - the graphics are really awesome.

Thats actually a possible solution, since ur 2x460 is not bad. You can hope that the 700 nVidia series will have some more performance and will not be an attempt to milk nvidia customers and also that AMD will continue to provide high performance and well priced cards (cause if their 8000 series dont do much more then nVidia will have real price fest).

Well, its in alpha..maybe they're fix the port issue. i dont think the 600s should have that much issue running it. Maybe after full release things will be better.

Compare the 7970 to the GTX 680 and you''ll see the 680 only getting 24fps, while the regular 7970 gets 25 fps and the GHZ edition 7970 gets 29 fps. 5 fps is big when your talking about 25 fps to 30 fps. Also, let's not forget there is a 7990 video card also. I'd bet it would beat that GTX 690 considering what the 7970 does to the 680

I personally think the only reason 7970 beats 680 is because of the extra 1gb video ram to it.
