Video card cooling effecting speed
Hi, I have an Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS installed on my computer. A couple of days ago, I started to check the temperature of the card and it was constantly up at around 250 Degress F. And at that same time, a simple game I play all the time started to lag out of no where. The game has never done that before. I did a virus scan with my NOD32 Anti-Virus software, and updated the video card driver. The heat still didn't go down and the lag didn't stop either. So, I'm thinking that the heat of the video card dramatically effects the computers speed. Any thoughts?

is the fan spinning? take it out and clean it from dust.
The lag is from high temperature. |

Are you sure that the card is really running at that temp? 250F is ridiculously high, and at those temps the card should be throttling down, hence the bad performance.
Also, check the GPU's heatsink for dust or even if it's actively cooled, if the fan didn't die. |

250F would melt the board quickly. You may have a faulty sensor but I would check airflow to the card and reapply TIM.

well, it turns out that it was dust that was causing the fan in the video card to stop running. i cleaned it out and it runs great now. thanks for the support.

250F is 121C guys...
And people forget that G80s normally idled around the 40~50s and hit 80~90s on load. For the OP, good that your problem got resolved man. Keep it clean and blow out the computer once in awhile. |

Dude, 90c is quite a bit cooler then 121c lol. In terms of fahrenheit thats a 87.8 degree difference. Most GPUs max threshold is 105c.

try to run it full and check the temp, just touch the hsf and does it pretty hot? ![]() check your hsf condition and clean from dust and check your fan too, some old fans may slower than before
