iPad 3rd 64gb or iPad 4th 32gb which would you buy

I can buy a iPad 3rd Generation 64gb for $499.00 or a iPad 4th 32gb for $559.00
The difference is the iPad 4th Generation has a faster processor and a better charging cord but everything else is the same. I do not wish to hear about an Android Tablet. I love the Androids like the Asus Infinity Pad but they do not have the software I need for school. So the question is faster CPU(double the performance) for $59.00 more or more memory( double the memory) for $59.00 less which would you buy?

I had a iPad 2nd Generation but need the higher Retina Display because I will be doing a lot of document preparation, and their is a big difference in the screens when reading documents.

Well, that depends on whether you will make use of a lot of apps, games, music and videos which can be pretty big in size; 32 GB storage may not be enough! If you will, then it's better to buy the one with a bigger storage (in your case the mentioned iPad 3rd gen with 64 GB storage), because you can't expand the storage with a SD flashcard on the iPad after all.

Thanks, I will be recording a lot of classes and using a bunch of apps. The rub here is, I do play games as well. My current iPad 3 can be returned and the iPad 4 is dropping in price weekly. Apple does piss me off with the lack of an SD slot. That is why I like Android but I have had issues with quality and app performance from them. I cannot be bothered with that school is hard enough. So for now, I am stuck with limited memory. Having said this, I do love my iPad it is quality all the way around but not perfect. I almost never use my desktop.

I'd get the newest one. 32GB is plenty of storage space IMO and the speed increases will be worth it with future iOS updates.

I'd offer the same advice (my Nexus 7 32GB is awesome for $250) but it appears he needs to use some iOS exclusive software for educational purposes.

If you want performance ditch the ipad idea all together.

I know you said you didn't want android, But what about windows.

There is a pad available that is basically a full scale laptop. 1.4Ghz dual core sandybridge cpu, 4GB ram, 64Gb SSD, and HD3000 GPU. Running on windows 8 the full version. It might be a little out of your budget however. Acer Iconia W700 I3 64Gb.

The tablet is more than capable of running, Microsoft Office (full version). Games. It has a built in USB 3.0 for an external hard drive as well so you can take more information out and about.

You also have the added bonus of a bigger screen.

Iconia W700

It is unfortunately $800. More than $300 more than the ipad. But you get a lot more that the ipad can offer.

The other potential Product would be an i3 based ultrabook. Again you should be able to get a faster CPU, 4 GB of ram and a 64Gb SSD, For a lot less.

Cheapest I3 ultrabook on newegg.

same price as the ipad, But far far more power, and storage. Granted it's not a tablet. But it does have a better keyboard to type on and the size of it isn't going to break your back to carry.

He wants a tablet.

Me I'd get the cheaper one. More storage too. Tbh I didn't even know there was a 4th edition.

A Win8 based posted above could be worth considering though, depending on your budget.

is it that for your school the only correct software an app support comes from Apple?

After lengthy and exhaustive use of both the best Android tablets Infinity, Xoom ,Iconia, Samsung Galaxy Note and the iPad, the iPad is currently the best choice. One, the note taking apps do not come close to the ones on iPad and two, the document conversion software is not as good on Android. Lastly, law offices and court systems use iPads almost exclusively, and I am studying Law and will soon be doing a internship. If you go to a court house from the judge on down almost no one use laptops anymore and unless they are reading a book you will be hard pressed to find an Android. That may change in the future but sadly it is the case currently. Even law dictionary software and research software are iPad exclusive. That and for several more reasons, I need to use Apple iPad. Example, my last school project required Imovie. FYI, the Note and the Infinity are the best Androids and I like them both. However, it this the program support that they lack.

Best android now seems to be nexus 10 but anyway if that's the situation get the cheapest one. While iPad 4 has a much better CPU the overall experience is the same.

There is like next to no difference between the 3rd and 4th generations of iPad. So for that reason you would be a bit daft if you went for the more expensive one just so you can say it's a 4th generation. Heck I would go buy the cheapest iPad 2 I could find. By the sounds of it you are using it as an educational tool, not a fashion accessory.

Asrock read a few posts above and you will see why I made the choice I have. Post 15 to be exact. If both iPads had 64gb of storage the decision would be easy. Also, I did look at the Nexus 10, and while it is very nice, if I was going to buy a Android, it would not be memory limited. In my opinion the Infinity is the best Android because of the dock and all the extra memory slots. Plus, the Infinity's display in real world use loses nothing to either the iPad or Nexus, but as I pointed out in post 15 that is not a option. I wish it was but it is not.

I say, in this case yes. From Eurogamer review:

"The benchmarks demonstrate a colossal improvement in CPU performance and a new standard in mobile 3D power, but it's fair to say that this is not reflected in the overall experience."

I think your advice has been great. In fact everyone's advice has been great. I will let this go a bit longer. The problem with the horse power issues is very few apps use the power any of the top end devices use like the Nexus and iPad 4. It is the Xbox syndrome. No one makes max programming because they want to sell as many apps, programs and games across as many platforms as possible. Like the Xbox holding back the Ps3 and PC if you get the point. With the iPad Mini selling like crazy, I think it will be the device that holds everything back. So that should be a factor here. At first blush, this seems a simple choice but there are many factors to consider.

Then save some money and get the older one..

If the 3rd gen does every thing you need it too then get it and you get a extra 32GB with it as well..

Better still get one from walmart as they normally let you use the item and be able to give it back to them as long as it's within the 90 days.. Although ask them 1st to make sure but i could be a way to solve your problem.

What program does Apple offer that you need thats not on Android or Windows 8 RT? I'm just curious not looking to start a fanboy war or anything. Its a legit question. I mean most law offices use windows, so to me the most logical choice would be Windows 8 RT. Why use an Apple program thats kinda the same when you can have the real deal?
