6950 is still a decent card. I have two that are unlocked in Xfire without any issues in newer games. In the near future though I may sell and get a single card setup to save on power but in the mean time I am pretty much set.

no, the 6950 handles Everything fine, but since the thread was about the longevity of the CPU, I was curious about the i5 as well.

I wasn't taking a pop at you, just suggesting that this question would be better answered in a dedicated thread.
And no, it wasn't clear that your question related to the system in your specs. All you had to do was refer to it and that would have been enough.

Anyway, even with efficient water cooling, a poor heatspreader will still tend to cause hotspots on the die.

I've read posts and articles from people who have de-lidded or replaced the stock thermal paste, and the temperature difference is not a large as with older chips. The chips are just too hot to begin with.

Off the top of my head, I remember reading about improvements of the order of 20C or so using air cooling. At that point the CPU became competitive with SB.

Well I am looking forward to all the new prices in the next few years. IF AMD cannot step up to the plate Intel is gonna gouge the market like crazy.
I've argued that point in the past and all the lil' Intel fanboys said they would never do that.......just watch. To hot for what? I mean really WTF are you doing that even needs an OC CPU? Its not 1998 anymore. |

Jboy, Stick with the 2500K for a while. It still does what is needed.

I speculate that not long after haswell arrives, ivy bridge proccessors will take a $100-$150 price, and sandy bridge will take another cut in price bringing the 2500k below $100. This will allow many to upgrade to those processors cheaply if they don't want to go to haswell. I know I will be upgrading to a 3770k when I find one cheap, although will want the newer shinier haswell.
