Need Help With OC: MSI Kombustor not stable, how to proceed?
Yesterday, I had my 5870 at 1000 core and 1300 mem and 1.225v core voltage.
I could run any of the 3D tests for as long as I wanted. Today, it seems more unstable, those same tests crash, and sometimes they work. GPU Burn-in crashes on all of the Open GLs, and Direct Xs. How do I proceed? I want to keep my core and mem clocks. Do I increase core voltage? Decrease core voltage? also: when I set the core voltage to 1.275v yesterday, it was unstable, but 1.225v seemed to be fine. |

I am now MSI Kombuster Stable at Core: 950, Mem: 1300, Core Voltage: 1.2v
But I want to bump my core up to 1000. How do I do that? Do I need to increase voltage, or decrease it? |

You need to bump voltage, but you also need to make sure you the Core and VRM temps stay within reasonable temps.

My temps go up to 80C on stock clocks with MSI Kombustor. My temps Go up to 90C at the current 950/1300/1.2v.
The 5870 fan automatically increases to keep the temp stable at 85-90C depending on which Kombustor test I am using. Also. I find that if I crank voltage too high, it's unstable. It's as if I need it not too low, and not too high. |

Make a custom fan curve in afetburner (increasing fan sped), see if that stabilizes your OC.

Well as low you can so increase the fan speed till is stable. If its not then decrease your oc or change the cooler with an aftermarket one but even so i cant guarantee you it will be stable at that oc because in time chips in general worn-out.

Stock is meh besides they always have higher voltages than necessary for stock speed so you may as well oc as far as stock v is letting you, thats what i do anyways.
