Hd4850 crossfire drivers

Hi guys n gals

A friend very kindly donated me a mobo and power supply capable or running my hd 4850 with another in crossfire. I've purchased a second one on the bay for 15 quid posted (that's a sour note considering how much I paid for mine new). There's a multitude of information on how to install crossfire but my question is what drivers. I suspect drivers have stopped being produced for my card now and from my experience ATI's drivers have been questionable at times so what driver version would you recommend for best performance? I'm very much looking forward to playing and playing with crossfire, never had a setup capable of running it before .

Thanks all

All you need to do is go to AMD's website and you can select what card you want the driver for. It will link you to the driver to use automatically.

Just use your current driver if your just adding another 4850 and enable xfire in Catalyst control centre, thats basically it.
The last hd4850 drivers are 12.6 i believe.

I understand that I can go to amd's website for the latest drivers . But I was under the belief that the latest doesn't alway mean best for performance. Just wondering if there's slightly older drivers that I could gain better performance out of a wider variety of games with. Is I've read different driver versions can benefit different games

When I was running my 4870's in cfire I used the 12.6's without any issues. If your not having any issues with your current driver just use it. You won't need to reload it or anything. Just install the second card and install the bridge. Reboot and enable crossfire under Amd Vision.

Keep in mind also that despite being stuck with the 12.6 legacy drivers, you can still use the latest CAPs:

Particularly useful when it comes to keeping crossfire performance optimal. I run 2x 4870x2 in QuadCF and 2x 4850 in two different computers and this is what has given me the best performance.

Someone at Guru3D modded the 12.11 beta 11 drivers for legacy cards here: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=372799

They might be worth a try?

Never used a modded driver before if I wish to un install it would I do so just as any other 'non modded' driver?

After actually reading through it, no. I'd probably stay away.

I run the legacy 12.6's on a dual 3870x2 rig they work fine in most any game.
