AMD Radeon 8000 Series Dates?

(News Update)

So it's official. AMD announced that for 2013, they are going to be focusing on expanding the 7000 series. In Q4 2013 or Q1 2014 they will be announcing specs on the 8000 series.

http://wccftech.com/amd-radeon-2013-...eries-q4-2013/

-------------------------------------------------------

As we all know, tax season is upon us. This has me rapidly pondering more and more about purchasing a nice and shiny new GPU. I started looking into the new Radeon 8000 series in development. Every source I come across says either January or 1st quarter of 2013.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the release dates for the new line. I am personally interested in the 8970 and will probably be one of the first out.

Give us your thoughts!

So wait, they're actually rehashing old architecture for the HD8xxx series? Could this be limited to OEM market, and not actual AIB partners? Or am I reading this all wrong?

That's what I read, 8970 is 7970 Boost, 8950 is 7950 boost. And this is on AMD's own website, not some other random site.

Hmm. At least we're getting some info on the series. The 8970 isn't quite as powerful as I thought it would be.

AMD's 7000 series brought in the new GCN architecture. They bring in GCN2 for the 8000 series, it's really just a refinement of what they brought this generation.

If these are little more than rebrands and basically HD7xxx with tweaking then we can expect the release date to be sooner rather than later.

I severely doubt that since the 7000 line came out last January. Waiting a year an 8 some odd months would seem a bit off for AMD to do :/

It would be nice if GPUs don't launch this year, from both camps. It would give them more time to come up with something worth upgrading to. *JUST A THOUGHT*

Seeing as everything always seems to get more expensive as time goes on, I highly doubt a reasonable launch price for anything anymore.

This thread is about the non OEM parts, they are not rebrands but Sea Islands GPUs based on GCN2(?).

this is reasonably accurate as of right now, although i have to question the numbering of the Sea Islands parts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari...ocessing_units

we are basically waiting for the Curacao, and Hainan parts. (and potentially the Aruba part -x2, which will probably never happen)
