Need Help - System crashes with Solid Lines going down screen

Hi all,

Here is my system:
i5-2500k on a GA-Z68XP-UD3 Gigabyte Board
HD 7970 Msi Lightning
2x4gb of G.Skill Ripjaw RAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
SyncMaster P2770

I have been experiencing some very strange problems with my PC for a few months now. Sometimes, whenever I stream videos, such as anime or even youtube, browse the internet, go on Skype or play games, I get a freezing screen of lines that inevitably crash my system. Picture shown here - http://imgur.com/EuHuV,Tnz42. The color of the background varies with whatever the streaming background color is. Sometimes it's brown or pink or yellow - however, what is consistent is the parallel lines running down the screen and the inevitable crash of the system.

I experience this problem the most when I am streaming videos. I have tried reinstalling drivers, reinstalling Chrome (and reinstalling flash player), and last of all, I have tried reformatting my computer.

I have sent this card in for RMA and MSI was not able to replicate the same problem. Does anyone have any feedback to why this might be happening?

Thanks,
David

Any solutions so far?

Are you sure it's a driver issue? My 5970 didn't exhibit these problems. And it seems that no one from MSI has heard of these problems nor were able to replicate it.

The problem appeared in the radeon 5xx series era and it was a common problem with earlier drivers. I think the solution it was (back then and temporary) to increase the idle clocks via a ccc profile edit.
Can behave similarly if its not stable at its curent oc clocks.(vram clock unstable)

Thanks for the input - I will try to look up those problems for those cards and see if it is the same problem. I will look into it tonight.

If anyone else has any input, that would be great!

I had that same problem with my XFX 5770 couple years back. Would happen when gaming, usually within a minute or 2 of loading the game after a fresh boot. Had to reboot and as far as i recall it would not happen again for a while. Seems to me after playing with different drivers it stopped. Dont ask which driver cuz i have slept since then. LOL

I have since switched to XFX 6870 and have never had a problem.

I just installed the new CC 13.1, so I hope it makes a difference!
