Need advice on upgrade to my PC
Would a Corsair TX850 PSU and (2) GTX 580 graphics cards be compatible with my HPE-257c PC, also would it be better to run 2 GTX 580 cards or 1 GTX 690? It's the base model no upgrades so far and its been a great PC but I've recently started video editing and really need an upgrade

If this is your PC:
Refurbished: HP Pavilion Elite HPE-257c (BK424AAR#... According to the specs you only have 1 PCI-E x16 slot so that would mean no SLI or CrossFire: ![]() That being said, you would notice a very nice performance boost with a single GTX 580 or the GTX 690; however there are many newer cards from both camps that will out perform the GTX 580 and are in a good price range. |

Ive never seen a OEM PC with two PCI-e slots. But list all your hardware. Im not sure the rest of your components would benifite from such a upgrade
And yes a 690 would be bete then 2 x 580 Last edited by Jetster; Jan 18, 2013 at 10:59 AM. |

Sure a gtx 690 would be better than 2 570's but it also has a ginormous price.

Just as a btw, these high-end gaming cards mentioned so far are
a) Overkill for gaming below 2560*1600. b) Overkill for video editing. An SSD might be a better upgrade. |

If it's for video editing a faster videocard won't help much, unless you have video-editing software that can make use of Opencl or Nvidia's CUDA. In general for video editing you need a faster processor.
Anyway if your PC is the one HammerOn mentioned, then you can only use one videocard, just because there's only one PCI-E x16 slot on the motherboard. While the Core i7 860 with 8 threads should be enough for fast video-editing, but you could use a boost from a decent overclock, but I guess the motherboard in that HP PC wouldn't allow it. Anyway, if besides video-editing you also want to play demanding video games, then a GTX 670 and a Corsair TX650 V2 PSU would be more than enough (depending on the screen resolution of your LCD monitor or single/multi-monitor setup). |

For a stock i7 8** and GTX 670, a good 500W PSU would be (considerably more than) enough.
