Socket 775 Quad Core shopping

Possibly looking for a Intel Quad Core Socket 775 cpu.
I never owned one and want to see the difference between the E-8500 Dual Core I'm running and a Quad Core.
I don't believe they will be much faster than what I have now but if I can get a quad cheap I'd like to see for myself.

I'd like to get a QX6700 or QX6800 but I'd consider a Q6600 also.

Let me know what ya got for a good price?

speaking from experience(going from a e8400 to a Xeon 3220, which is the same as a q6600), going to a Q6*** quad will "feel" slower than your e8500. The extra cache per core of the e8500 compared to the q6600 makes a world of difference. It would be like comparing a 400 HP 4*4 truck to a 250 hp sportscar. Sure the 4*4 has more power, but the sportscar will be more responsive. Trust me when I say, you won't be happy going to anything less than a q9450 coming from a e8500. I had my 3220 for 2 weeks before selling it and buying a q9650.

Ok, that is really great real world information that is exactly the feedback I needed to hear.
Thank you for that input Barbaric.
I think I'll look around for a Q9450 or a Q9650 for the right price (cheaP, if that's even possible or trade for a E8400 plus some cash)

I'm looking to do the same thing as Raw, my E8400 has been good but it's spending all day maxed out. Need a Q9450 or above if any one has one.
Thanks.

Q8300 is actually slightly worse than a Q6600 (1M vs 2M cache per core). Get a Q9xxx. Q6xxx should only be considered if your chipset doesn't support 1333FSB.

Thanks, however, as you see above Q6600 vs E8400 is 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

Here is two Q9650 for $180-

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-2...item1e76c18d76

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Core-2-QUAD-...item337f7de602

Oh and BTW, when searching for your 9650, try to get a Q9650, and not a QX9650. Q9650 run cooler and OC better than QX9650

Shipping from US

Thanks, however for some reason shipping costs to Europe, if the option exists, are astronomical.

He is kinda stepping on RAW's toes with asking for the same thing he needs in his own thread. He should create a new thread with his location and terms.

Meh, I might be wrong, but I really don't see a problem with Rhino posting here. To me, it's better to have less threads about the samething than having a bunch of individual threads asking the same question.
