Strange Temp problem... Maybe... i should call an exorcist?
Houston, we've got a problem...
Sabertooth 990FX rev2 fx-8320@4.1 hyper 212 evo well, this is a very strange thing.... with the case in vertical (normal position) Coretemp on prime95 48C with the case in horizontal position Coretemp on prime95 90C + and safe reboot. one question... why? Crazy question- when you lay the case down are the board and cooler facing up or facing down?
A heatpipe cooler won't work upside down and the system will overheat quick.....

I had this happen with a video card. I think the wick inside the heatpipes isn't drawing the fluid back to the base properly.
I'd contact support and try for an RMA.

So when it is standing up normally it overheats?
Definitely sounds like the heatsink isn't secured properly. Did you use the backplate that came with the motherboard or the one that came with the heatsink? When the computer is laying down try putting a little sideways pressure on the heatsink, in the same direction gravity would pull it down if it was standing up, and see if it moves and see if it affects temperatures. If it's the latter then that CM cooler is likely defective

i understand about the CM but how can a piece of metal be defective?? the fan run fast and if it was defective horizontal or vertical... it should always be defective! Moreover with previous motherboard all was fine... uff... Last edited by myself; Feb 2, 2013 at 12:26 AM. |

It sounds to me like that cooler perhaps doesn't have the wicks in the heatpipes, causing this problem? Does the manual say anything about orientation affecting its performance?
One way or another it sounds like it should be replaced. Get a Noctua NH-D14 like I have. You won't be disappointed.
