Are you talking about the design of the ports? Displayport came out in 2008, and miniDP came out in 2009.

We'd need to know which GPU then, you can't tell from the ports since both regular and mini are commonly used.

Depends on the card. Manufacturers use both on all versions of the card. The mini-DP's are usually used on the flex version which are made to support more monitors IIRC.

Not really. What specifically do you want to know? The 7970 release a while ago, and was succeeded by the GHz Edition 7970 cards. Others get more murky.

There has been a revision to some 7xxx series cards where the available ports have been changed.

Here the example:-
ASUS HD7870

ASUS HD7870 v2

The latter being the revision or newer version.

Not really. You realize the signal that is sent over HDMI, DisplayPort and DVI is the same, correct?

News to me.
I knew visually you could not tell the difference.

I know HDMI has the additional function of delivering audio as well.
So whats the purpose of a monitor with DVI, HDMI and and no audio out?

Just because they can?

1) They all have the same signal, because their underlying communication specifications are the same. Voltages do differ.
2) HDMI has multiple different grades. Each grade has different extra features, transmitted using extra pins that weren't available on previous connectors.
3) Monitors try to have all the connectivity they can. Even if they don't have audio, some can use the ethernet connection that newer HDMI specifies (very specific and costly ones).

4) This thread is bizarre. The OP asks a question that isn't founded in any reason. Answers are offered, but ignored. I don't really think this is anything that can actually be answered...

Didn't even know HDMI had different grades.
Either way seems to be no point in purchasing an HDMI cable and sticking to my DVI output unless I want to see no difference for myself.

Don't think the OP intended to ask anything from a technical stand point.
Just wanted to know which output layout is newer for the 7xxx series.

To be honest, im not 100% sure as to what the OP is asking. But Display and MiniDP is the same connection just different form factor.

The only time HDMI sucks for PC is when your monitor/video card driver treats it as a TV signal and blurs it up, but that's only if the display is a shitty one with no options to disable whatever crap processing causes that.
