GTX 660 OEM Unlockable?
As per the title, can a GTX 660 OEM be unlocked (i.e. stream processors, texture units, or VRAM) to a GTX 660 TI? If it can't be unlocked, it should still achieve better performance than a GTX 660 non-TI, right?
Thanks! Last edited by Domokun; Feb 4, 2013 at 03:26 PM. |

If, before making this thread, you had done a quick google search, you would have found that those cards use different cores. Check the table in this review.
Short answer: no. |

Save money on eating, eat cheap foods like a box of mac n cheese, a pb n j, use extra money saved from food to get the ti version instead.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am only considering the GTX 660 OEM as it can be had for considerably cheaper than the GTX 660 (which starts at $215 AUD) and the GTX 660 TI (which starts at $278 AUD). |

As far as I know, no nVidia card in recent times have ever been unlocked.

Oh now I see. Still, I highly doubt that any unlocking could be done. nVidia probably had some half-working chips laying around and decided to still make cards with them. The price of the oem version is lower that the reference 660ti because it will perform slower. It has fewer stream processors and significantly lower clocks, max TDP up to 130W, an a brick wall at 150W because of only one PCI-E power connector on the card. You're probably better off buying a reference GTX 660 (non-Ti), and OC it.

You can't unlock more Shader or any Hardware based capabilities , but there is a way to "unlock" your card. At least Power Target setting can be changed, even higher booststates can be reached. Don't expect too much, but there will be a nice performance gain. Post your bios file and i'll have a look.

I think the GTX465's were the last ones.
