Evil Geniuses Joins Team Razer

Razer, one of the world's pioneering supporters of e-Sports, and Evil Geniuses, the Western world's premier professional gaming team, have formed a partnership to reinforce Razer's support of e-Sports globally.

Team Evil Geniuses is one of the longest-running organizations in North American e-Sports, and they house arguably the most prestigious roster of professional gamers in the region. EG makes for a fantastic addition to the elite ranks of Team Razer: From their Dota 2 division, which features fan favorites like DeMoN, Maelk and Fear, to their broad roster of StarCraft 2 talent, including superstars like Jaedong, Stephano and IdrA, to Justin Wong, Ricky Ortiz and their deep Fighting Game line-up, to Snoopeh and their newly-acquired League of Legends team.

"Evil Geniuses is one of the best gaming organizations to have ever existed," said Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder, CEO and creative director. "Their roster reads as a Who's Who of e-Sports and I am looking forward to partnering them in 2013 and beyond. We've always been huge supporters of e-Sports and the community and this partnership with EG will take us even further."

Evil Geniuses teamed- up with fellow Team Razer member Team Liquid to compete in this year's Starcraft 2 Proleague, and are now the first non-Korean-based team to compete in the most prestigious professional league televised globally. Marcus "ThorZaIN" Eklöf," Evil Geniuses' Swedish Terran player, who in December became the first non-Korean player to win a Proleague match in more than seven-and-a-half years, was recently awarded Proleague's MVP award in consideration of his outstanding play and positive mentality.

"We are honored to welcome Razer as our official partner for mice, keyboards and mousepads," remarked Evil Geniuses CEO Alexander Garfield. "We have been lucky enough over the years to have received great support from companies that share our passion and enthusiasm for e-Sports, and we are grateful to see Razer join that group. With their support, we'll not only continue to support our players better than any other team in the world, but we'll also be able to introduce a number of great custom products – something we've wanted to offer or fans for a long time."

The Evil Geniuses partnership further solidifies Razer's already-established dominance within e-Sports and reinforces Razer's commitment to the ever-growing e-Sports industry. Look for Evil Geniuses players to be sporting their brand-new Razer gear in upcoming major tournaments, such as IEM Katowice, League of Legends Season 3 and IPL6.

Machine, JYP, Idra, Jeadong, and InControl, yes.. they might be past their peak.

What about TL? TLO has been around for so long he's practically SC2's grandfather... least it's not White_GrandPA

All of them suffered from EG sickness, only those 3 recovered past to surpass their former peak (some say Stephano was never afflicted, I think he had a mild case).

I have been sad that IdrA hasn't made a good showing. At the start of SC2, it looked like he had limitless potential, untouchable. He has since declined, I think primarily due to his lessened work ethic. Still one of my favorite players, and fun to watch.

I have thought a lot about Razer's situation. I wonder if they actually put their peripherals through any sort of testing. It seems that some of these companies could have avoided some of the most simple inconsistencies in their devices with just a few hours of testing.

Razer is sort of becoming the BOSE, Monster, or Apple of gaming peripherals; why focus on technical quality when you're winning with marketing?

It's my observation that Razer is cornering the market by winning over the hearts and minds of the less-informed masses. In almost every brick-and-mortar store I walk into, Razer's products dominate the gaming mice, keyboard, and headset sections. I see a few Logitech, mionix, SteelSeries, and CM Storm products (Corsair peripherals were rare and I think most brick-and-mortars stopped carrying them). But for the most part, at least half the products are Razer offerings. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Razer is doing well and sees no reason to jeopardise that.

For SC2 maybe, but for League of Legends it isn't.
EG which is former CLG.EU is one of the top teams in the world.

How can we justify selling this mouse at that ridiculous price?
The dpi is through the roof but it doesn't make any difference.
Call up EG, get them to join us and slap their name on the POS.

People will think it's for 1337 gamers when it's actually not all that great.

I have the Black Widow, it is working fine. Their products are known to have certain issues that recur even after revisions to their design, if you read their reviews you'll get the idea.

Careful now, just because they dominate peripherals doesn't make them sell outs. Razer is most likely procuring a long term partnership with EG since they also sponsor independent players too.

Now TurtleBeach on the other hand, they are sell outs. So many XBOX360 specific head sets with Call of Duty editions... thats truly poor marketing.

If you follow any ESports you will at least recognise some. Razer is pretty good when it comes to sponsoring professional players, but one has to wish they spend just as much time on their QC.
