Need a HD7950?
What's the best HD7950 card to pickup out of my list below. Also, will a OC 7950 match a 7970? Please nobody say go Nvidia. Thanks!

From past experience, HIS is not too good at all.
Sapphire or Gigabyte get my vote. Windforce 3x is epic. From what i heard, MSI Twin Frozr is kinda loud.

My Twin Frozr III is not loud at all. Runs cool as well. A few reports of bad TIM jobs on those cards but perhaps that was earlier revisions.

The 7950 TF III gets my vote. ![]() Also, be careful with stock/reference coolers.... they only use a vapor chamber/no heatpipes and they really suck

I recommend the SAPPHIRE 100352-2L Radeon HD 7950 3GB, I have a 6950 with similar cooler and its very silent even at full load crunching unlocked. Also that one is 279.99$ AMIR

MSI 7950tf3 gets my vote, but i'm biased...
![]() Not sure if they are still shipping them with 7970 boards and the extra VRM, something to consider... If you're into that sorta thing?

I have the lowest end sapphire currently, clocks to 1180 out of the box (i should say without ever having errored out, even on trials) and never runs above 68c.
This is done with watercooling on the CPU so the inside of the case is cooler than most setups.

TF3 OC edition gets my vote, I have some TF2 OC edition 6950's that overclock like champs and all of W1zz's reviews show the current MSI lineup to do the same as well. Also they are sexy

FWIW I was also leaning towards the Gigabyte. Good and nice-looking cooler as well. No VRM cooling though (and I wanted a black PCB). Only $297 shipped at SuperBiiz; beats the Egg by a few bucks.

Hmm don't see the promo at SB though. The main reason I bought mine from there recently was that they still had the first NS promo avail after Newegg ran out. Plus my TF3 came with a Shogun 2 code as well.

My vote goes to Gigabyte as they have the best performing cooling. They cool the best and they are the quietest. I will see if i can find the 3 reviews i found before where they where testing the cooling of each card but if i don't all the 3 reviews i read all 3 of them said gugabyte had the best performing cooler

I have a HIS IceQ Boost Clock X2, nothing wrong with it, silent, runs fantastic. It's review suggests it goes toe to toe with a 670 and even better when Overclocked.
But I would probably recommend the Sapphire or the MSI Twin F

Bought the Gigabyte (#4) from Newegg and received it 2 days ago. Card came with a 1000/1250 BIOS and voltage is set to ~1.25v (1.5v RAM) out of the box. OD limits are 1200/1575 and it runs very cool. Board has all 7 power phases populated with 3 low-RDS(on) MOSFETs each, and seems to have minimal vdroop, at least with crunching. Only cons I see are the voltage is too high for stock and there is no MOSFET cooling, and I have only gotten the thing as high as 55c core/66c VRM under 100% crunching load at 1200/1500 with default 35% fan speed. Amazing card.

![]() VRMs will be fine, running 1.325 V and 1325+ MHz, they hit like 75 c, thanks to fast fan profile, and that extra row of FETS. Might be a bit of "coil noise" though. I run with 1.1 V BIOS, set to 1000/1375. If your card does 1375 on the mem and you want a cooler-running BIOS, let me know.

I'd recommend the Sapphire Dual-X... My friend has it and it's really cool and silent when he plays. And based from my experience, their support desk is really good.

Whatever you do, do not get the Boost Clock or Boost State cards. They aren't that popular and are a few bucks cheaper for a reason. I forgot the specific reason, but it's something along the lines of operating at weird frequencies if overclocked or something. Maybe someone else could help elaborate a bit on that.
However, my hands down choice would be #3 the Sapphire card for sure. Crysis 3 + Bioshock Infinite are also a nice extra.

My 7970 is a saphire. The stock cooler kept it at about 65c under load at stock while remaining very quiet. Quiet enough for me to sell my artic accellero, but not as quiet as the accellero. Every card clocks differently but mine can go up to 1300core and I have not even tried going higher.
