lol I love how people from tweaktown used the spec data I put in there back in September of 2012

I made a wiki portal from my user page to great pages

this is reasonably accurate as of right now, although i have to question the numbering of the Sea Islands parts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari...ocessing_units

we are basically waiting for the Curacao, and Hainan parts. (and potentially the Aruba part -x2, which will probably never happen)
So i can't see anywhere where it says mobile parts? the shader count core config seems to be correct, but the code names have changed...

Save yourself a few hundred dollars and get yourself 2x 7970's. It will probably be the same price as a single 8970 when they release, and the 7970's incur a price drop..

I hardly doubt that, still I'd rather pay 30-40% more for a single 8970 over a 7970 than a bit more for a couple 7970, single card is king.

Mars/Venus/oland are mobile parts...

discrete parts are Hainan, Curacao, and Aruba(if they make an x2 this round)

those graphics are old, and wrong...

I don't think there would be much of a performance difference between the 7970 and the 8970, seeing how its just a revision. Crossfired 7970's would almost certainly beat out any single card setup unless it were a dual gpu card. Just my opinion though. When it comes down to it, it's your money and your decision.

i respectfully disagree, while Oland is a Sea Island GCN2 chip, the planet designation IS CLEARLY mobile.

so, again, that graphic is for Mobile parts, its in error.

AMD has used planet to designate mobile chips for 2 gens now.

Again Desktop high/mid parts will be Curacao, Hainan, and Aruba. NOT OLAND.

There may be a few low end oland parts, but who cares...

it is also the basis for the mobile chips.

like i said, low end desktop.

Add the planetary designation, and you have mobile.

im referring to the naming only, and as far as naming goes, no mobile part is called oland for amd

no, they usually call them planets. (Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, Neptune, etc)

but for CGN2 they are based on oland.

7970 CFX WILL be faster than a single 8970, no doubt (unless AMD has been working with aliens lately), but take this advice from a fellow that has been running multiple (3+) GPUs since 4k series, there is nothing better than achieving your target performance with a single GPU.

So many LESS problems.

Personally I am currently running a simgle 7970, with the intent on buying another within the next month or two. I have also run dual cards before, as well as single top of the line cards. I miss my 8800GTX.. or SLI 7800GT copper cooler edition BFG's. I do agree 100%, but I think the decision will come down to what is to be expected of this setup, as well as budget, preference, etc. I think this solves this entire debackle.. lol

(News Update)

So it's official. AMD announced that for 2013, they are going to be focusing on expanding the 7000 series. In Q4 2013 or Q1 2014 they will be announcing specs on the 8000 series.

I wouldn't want to wait until "2004" either, but I will for 2014 read my system specs, my next major upgrade will be a broadwell with ddr4 support and pcie 4 and hd 9970, or w/e cpu is out when pcie4 is out and ddr4 could be skymont... either way im holding off for awhile
