That should be illegal. I've gotten sick of NV doing such a thing and ATI back in the day.

How about better drivers for performance improvements on every single game. Keeping this GPU series longer should assist in familiarizing themselves with the GPU.

I didn't quite finish my post accurately

I meant "Chucking a sony" as in saying that they will wait for Microsoft to release their console first. Then 1 week later they surprise everyone with this Feb 20th announcement which is most likely the PS4 catching microsoft off guard . Just wondering if AMD might do the same thing to Nvidia but I doubt it as AMD have their hands tied with next gen console hardware

Not worth the $900 unless it can do 7970 CF performance.

But possibly worth the $1800 if you have some cash burning through your wallet and want to put two of them in SLI

The other thing is i don't see the point of new GC's either from AMD or Nvidia not until we see screens/monitors getting mainstream with higher resolution then 1080 , no really don't we have this resolution for long enough already? (for PC)
or most games taking advantage of the hardware (Higher Levels of Detail compared to Consoles, aka Like back during the R9700 Pro Days)

Yeah but you can actually play games on 2-way SLI.

Quad-SLI... not so much. Though the 3dmark scores would undoubtedly be impressive.

You could probably buy 4 of them and then sell the two you don't want at crazy markup on ebay after running a quad-SLI bench and make back most of the money off the second card.

Cant wait for the next "AMD may delay thread" to talk about Nvidia TITAN for 75% of the post.

Atleast someones going out to get an official word aside from just bulletinboard rumors. I always wondered that about review sites and hardware sites. So quick to post rumors when they can just fire away an e-mail to said rep and get a clarification.

Nice catch.

Not sure about the "completely changing" aspect- still seems as clear as mud. It was always a given that AMD were releasing at least some HD 8000 series- both OEM and iGPU (Richland) have already been announced.
Quote:
"We will certainly have new [GPU] products in 2013."
Check.
Quote:
Why did that cause such a hub-bub? The GPU road map AMD showed off at CES gave equal billing to both "Sea Islands," AMD's internal code name for the Radeon HD 7000 series, as well as "Solar System," the code name for the next-gen Radeon HD 8000 series
AFAIW, "Solar System" (Mars, Sun, Venus, Neptune) are the code name for mobile. "Sea Islands" (Oland, Bonaire, Hainan, Curacao, Aruba) are supposedly the new desktop cards, with only the first three having any commonality with the mobile parts.
Quote:
Robert Hallock said as much when Legit Reviews approached him about his @AMDRadeon tweet: "I should note that HD 8000 Series has never been so much as hinted at for a channel release. Anything to the contrary is an unsubstantiated rumor fabricated to drive traffic.
Except those pesky mobile units that AMD have been publicizing I presume:

How has it been constant? The first 7970 review was posted on TPU on 12/11/11, which at this point was 1.25 years ago. They didn't have a set launch date for the 8xxx series beyond Q2-Q4 2013. For all we know Q4 could mean 2 years from when the 7970 launched, which isn't exactly constant. What they have done is start releasing a series and then taper it out slowly releasing more models as time goes on, which is somewhat annoying. I'd rather see a hard launch with the entire series...

Can we expect anything less from a generation of people that graduate from high school and college, but they can barely read, write or spell? When the ignorant are allowed to breed, and make big decisions that affect the intelligent, all kinds of bad things can happen, LOL.

Seriously though... Death of the PC has been predicted many times. If the enthusiasts buying killer products all die, and the money dries up for the products they always purchased, that could really happen. Kids can only afford consoles and cheap, under-performing mobile devices. As disposable as they are, they end up in landfills quickly and the concepts of modding, performance tuning and tweaking is like a foreign language to them. After all, if Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo offer it for sale, it must already be awesome, right?

Kind of like the concept of everyone driving crappy electric cars. They call it "vision," "innovation" and "progress" when it's really quite the opposite if you're a performance enthusiast. It really sucks when some people get their way.

Quite confused about the death of the pc and rise of the console posts.. on other news I've been reading, it's the consoles who are close to extinction XD.

Looks like nVidia and AMD are finally calling a truce so they can both focus on the real enemy of both companies: Intel. I just keep hoping that nVidia and AMD will see the light and merge. The merged AMD/nVidia would instantly have a lock on the graphics market, and have competitive x86 and ARM designs already, with the financial strength of nVidia and the deep intellectual property and engineer teams of AMD. Together, they would be serious force to be reckoned with.

My 5970 told me that it didn't care a while back.

I still don't think it does, as there's really been nothing to push it and I don't feel the need to dump large chunks of cash into a new GPU every year.

AMD will be releasing new SKU's this year, they've been rebranding OEM stuff. I at least expect 7 series revisions and something to be released after nVidia puts out.
