System Specs

Geforce 2 MX
Geforce 4 MX
Geforce FX 5200
Radeon 9600 XT
Radeon X800 Pro
Geforce 8800 GTS 320
2x Radeon HD 7970 Crossfire

The 8800 GTS 320 was easily my favorite purchase of all those, and the FX5200 was easily the worst. The 9600 XT was an awesome card as well. I'm curious in a few years what I'll think of these 7970s as it's the first time I've done a truly high end setup.

Ah yes, a confessed tech junky. I can relate totally, my friend.

I can't remember the whole timeline, but here's a few:

Voodoo 3 PCI
FX 5200 256MB (This was my first "proper gaming" card, back in 2003 when I didn't know nearly as much as I do now and thought the CPU could make up for the GPU. I learned otherwise very, very, quickly. This was a complete lemon)
ATI 9800 Pro 128MB
HD 2900 XT 1GB (BIOS modded Pro. Another lemon, but I have soft spot for it. At least the damned thing overclocked like a banshee)
HD 4870 512MB
GTX 285
GTX 580
GTX Titan (dreaming)

I also bought these cards for cheap once a couple of generations old or so and at various times as collector's items:

HD1650
7800GTX
7950 GX2
9800 GX2 (512MB x2) (floged it on eBay and wish I hadn't)
8800 GTX
8800 Ultra (odd Asus one with 8800 GTX heatsink. They actually made them like this)
8800 Ultra (brand new, boxed BFG one from eBay. Beautiful)
GTX 295

ATI Radeon 9000 (2004)
Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS (2007)
ATI Radeon HD 4770 (2010)
Current - Nvidia GeForce GTX 470

I love these kind of topics.

As I listed, I had a PCI version of FX5200, and it was slower than GF2 MX400 in games Red Faction ran much faster with the GF2... Well, the AGP version is surely a lot better, but still that was funny. I traded that FX5200 to a 9500 Pro and it was surprisingly good card, especially when overclocked (ran Flatout2 easily at max)

I think that may even be bigger than my jump from an 8800 GTS 320 to 7970 Crossfire!
