pc internet not working

Hello guys, Im new to this forum but Ive read a lot of information here to help me with numerous problems and you guys' advice is always good. I finally made an account because I did not find a thread similar to my problem and im desperate for some help! I have a netgear router which I use for my Wifi and is also connected to my PC. Every now and then (couple days, maybe a week) the Wifi stops working so I have to restart the router and the WiFi is fixed. Thing is, the internet on my PC stops working and I've been having this problem for a couple of years now but I always fix it by simply replugging the ethernet cable numerous times in the back of my PC until I see the lights turn on from the port and then I know the internet is working again. This has happened once again -.- but now when I replug the ethernet cable, the light really wont turn on so I cannot use my PC internet but my laptop internet is working fine. I've spent over 10 minutes replugging it in but the light wont budge, not sure how to fix this more efficiently. Help please?

In my original post, "restart my router" meant this (unplugging for 10 seconds)

Once I restart my router, the Wifi works but my internet on my PC is down. THEN, I begin to replug my ethernet cable into the port until the light turns on.

Network Interface Controller. My guess is that your LAN port/card on your mobo going bad. Try using another LAN card/port on your PC.

And, try plugging in the ethernet cable (the one from the NIC on the PC MB) into a different port on the router.

If you are using a Motherboard that has more than on ethernet port, switch it , too.

A little FYI... You might want to go to the User CP in the forum menu and list your specs (don't forget to check the box to show your specs). Knowing what parts people are dealing with might help with some troubleshooting.

Just making a quick guess... I think your router is the cause. Could be overheating, needing updated firmware, or defective.
What model is it?

Ok so no one asks what router. He has been dealing with connection problems for years! That can be frustrating to know end. I would have thrown that router up against the wall a long time ago. Its probably an old G router and they are horrible. The only good g router was the WRT54GL with DD-WRT. New routers are sooooo much better now

I believe your problem as has been mentioned is the lan port on your board/card is going bad. You can pick up a network card pretty cheap.
