Thermaltake Big Water A80 vs CM Hyper 212 EVO

Just though I would do a comparison. I ran the test twice. My current configuration is a CM Hyper 212 EVO with a push pull configuration. A i5 2500K @ 4.4

Hyper 212 EVO push pull
Prime 95 = 74c
3DMark 11 = 66c

Thermaltake Bigwater A80 single fan
Prime = 78c
3DMark 11 = 69c

Here is the interesting part. I put the 212 EVO back on at the end of the tests only changing the exhaust fan from the stock Corsair to a Cougar 12H I had. I changed nothing else but left off the second fan off the 212 EVO

Hyper 212 EVO Single Fan
Prime 95 = 70c
3DMark 11 = 58c

Ive had this EVO off and on many times. I always put it on the same way. Thermal paste , everything the same yet my temps dropped 4c. My 3DMark 11 score is still P8520. i have run tests when I went to a push pull config and there was no change with two fans then. But now with a single it dropped my temps

Odd no one commented on this. I did some testing on the Thermaltake A 80 and discovered the CM 212 EVO did better with a single fan

The 212 has comparable surface area. you will find that the top tier air coolers such as the D14 or Silver Arrow out perform all single 120mm radiator sized sealed water cooling units due to available surface area.
Water does have one advantage, and that's water doesn't suffer from getting saturated like heat pipes do (heat pipes will top out at a certain heat load and spike rapidly as the heat load rises thereafter). If you have overkill fans, such as the Scythe Ultra Kaze, water will also do better due to the same reason.

Your major temp variations are possibly because it is quite difficult to mount the 212 as tension is required on initial screwing down of the X brace making for an uneven spread of thermal compound. I've had a difference of over 5C (at 90C, 1800RPM), using IC Diamond just by remounting.

So are you saying you got better temps by installing better rear exhaust fan, than putting second fan on evo ?

What were specs of corsair verse cougar , I assume the cougar spins faster, more airflow .

Or is it just the random mounting position , re-pasting ,etc .

No, I'm saying the 212 EVO cools better with one fan. And better then the A80 also. And I tried this more then 4 times so its not related to paste application

ok, thanks for explaining . I get 60c in prime with 3570@3.9 with evo .

I was thinking of replacing the rear 120mm fan in my 500D with 140mm , or just also add one in top spots .as by default its 3 intake to 1 exhaust .
