Razer Announces Edge March 1 Pre-Order

Razer, the world leader in high-performance gaming hardware, software and systems, announced that its award-winning Razer Edge tablet will be available for pre-order on March 1, 2013, at 12:01 a.m. PST at this page. Purchased units will be shipped to consumers later that month.

The most powerful tablet in the world is also already one of the most decorated of its kind, with the Razer Edge claiming eight awards at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), including CNET's "Best of Show" award, where it beat more than 20,000 other products. In addition, the Edge was voted the "People's Voice" award recipient by fans, making this the third consecutive year that a Razer product earned that honor.

"The Razer Edge combines the features of full-functioning PCs, touch-enabled tablets and gaming consoles into one incredible, portable form factor," says Min-Liang Tan , Razer co-founder, CEO and creative director. "Furthermore, the Razer Edge's powerful chipset, unique among all tablet computers, ensures that you can take advantage of the world's most sophisticated games, programs and apps on these multiple platforms anytime."

PC gamers helped shape the Razer Edge by way of a massive crowdsourcing effort put into place by Razer, which targeted millions of gamers to help determine final specifications for the tablet. Razer let its community decide the final chipset, weight, thickness, features and even price for the Edge, hosting the initiative on its social media pages, an unprecedented move for a hardware manufacturer.

The Razer Edge and its Intel Core i5 processor and 64 GB SSD, and the Razer Edge Pro with an Intel i7 processor and the option of a 128 GB or 256 GB SSD, will begin shipping this March. The gamepad controller, home console dock and extended battery accessories will be made available for pre-order and shipping concurrent with the Edge on March 1. An optional keyboard dock is slated for launch later this year in Q3.

The all-in-one Razer Edge PC gaming solution starts at $999.

Guess he is new to world of PC gaming. . Due to that i7 processor I am skeptical about battery life of Razer Edge, probably will wait for the review.

Unfortunally this will just flop like their overpriced laptop. On the other hand if you could install windows 7/8 on it

Any higher you might as well call it a non portable device: the battery will not be powerful enough.

Windows' scaling is not pretty good and you wouldn't want play game like Civ5 at 1920x1080 in 10-11" tablet, the text would be far too small.

Why would anyone in their right mind preorder an untested piece of hardware that is a first of its kind?

Crappy speced Ultrabook with shitty game "handles" instead of a keyboard... Genius!
And Windows on a 128 GB SSD...

While I do see the number of comments about the poor durability of the ONZA game pad and have to agree even though mine is still working, there has not been enough time to see if these new Sabretooth controllers are going to turn out like the ONZA.

With the asking price of the Sabretooth controllers we better hope they are durable.

20GB for Windows, about 9GB for recovery, a few GB for some bloatware and then some games and music etc and you will be running low on storage soon.
Without additional storage options that SSD will be soon full.

Just read that there will be a 256GB option too...

As engineered by social media and the iphone generation of "gamers" who don't consider themselves gamers. About as much of an abomination as the "share" button on the PS4 or other moronic ideas.

I'm actually interested in this tablet, but I would wait a bit longer and would change a few specs on a second revision:

Upgrade the CPU to a ULV Haswell, it'll consume much less power than IVB on deep sleep, and the IGP will be more efficient when not gaming.

Would definitely upgrade the screen to at least 1920x1080, I mean, even my phone has higher resolution than the Edge...

Would use the GDDR5 version of the 640, boosting performance without any increased power penalty, or perhaps even wait for a Kepler gen 2 mobile GPU with enhanced performance in a similar power envelope (maybe the power savings from migrating to Haswell would allow for a faster discrete GPU)

Would definitely include an extra battery with the controller adapter for the price (currently $250 without any extra battery)

Or

Would go for an AMD Jaguar based APU with a fast GCN IGP, it might not be as power efficient or have the same CPU performance as Haswell, but it would pack a punch for gaming and using an APU would probably allow for a similar power usage than a CPU+GPU combo while saving costs and having similar performance.

Here's hoping Razer fixes some of the issues in this version and lower the price like they did with the 2nd version of the Blade.
