That's exactly how I buy my stuff, thanks to a little help from the Ferengi asteroid, and STF.

Currently on a Galaxy Dreadnought.

There are tons of trivial garbage in the game make you spend real money on. The people in my fleet (equivalent to BF3 platoon) I sometimes chat with say they spend anywhere between $50 and $75 on the game per month. Compare that to the ~$50 EA charges as a one-time payment for Battlefield 3 (you can unlock everything there is in the game, play for as long as there are servers).
In a F2P game I don't have a problem with it. But I doubt EA is planning on releasing every game they make F2P, or even considering reducing the initial sale prices of their games to compensate.

That's true, the game industry is changing as a whole and its not just EA..I have spent hundreds of $$ combined on Micro transaction games like LoL and LOTRO.

Though for Single Players game I still find it hard to see the point, but like I said to each their own.

I prefer more substantial content in one go rather than being fed smaller content at a faster rate. It's a business and that's why they decided to move in this direction. Maybe people think they get value for money because content gets released faster and they can pick and choose more but that content is less substantial and more diluted content imo. You feel compelled to buy more because it doesn't feel like you got a lot to play with.

I just don't see smaller content "micro transactions" as value for money personally.
