MSI Z77A-GD65 Gaming and GeForce GTX 670 Gaming Teased Some More

We've known since a little earlier this week that MSI has been working on a new product line targeting gamers, which builds on the success of its Gaming Series notebooks; that the company has been working on a variant of the Z77A-GD65 motherboard based on the series; and that the series could also include graphics cards and gaming-grade all-in-one desktops. MSI revealed a few more byte ahead of its big CeBIT unveiling.

To begin with, our suspicious voiced last week are true, the company's first Gaming Series motherboard is in fact a variant of the Z77A-GD65, with a few changes: an overhauled VRM and chipset heatsink design inspired by the dragon-head logo; a black+red color scheme, Bigfoot Killer E2200 low-latency network controller, and possibly Creative Sound Blaster Cinema audio. Moving on, we're hearing that the first graphics card in the Gaming Series will be based on GeForce GTX 670. It could be positioned above the company's fastest GTX 670, the Power Edition/OC. In addition to a slightly new cooling solution, the card could feature an improved VRM.

I'm happy seeing MSI going with this color scheme even though Asus ROG and ASrock fatal1ty boards use it. I like this color and ROG is a bit to expensive for my taste, but this might be more affordable.

HAWK
Lightning

It may be a HAWK GTX 670, i hope...

So, one more manufacturer that offers us a black+red scheme.

I've been ranting at ASUS for that silly RoG colour scheme for years.

Not cool.

I suppose "Gaming" sounds a lot more fun than a "Working" model of the same board.

I think MSI is in dire need of a better product naming department...

Why not use black-yellow color scheme just like your Lightning gfx?
Why black-red? Idgi

System Specs

Black/Yellow - Overcloking
Black/Red - Gaming

Not sure there's much logic to that though...

Similarly, Gigabyte uses Black/Orange for overclocking, Black/Green for gaming.

Hawk and Lightning are the same tier. Hawk is for mainstream and Lightning is for flagship.

Their MPOWER already takes the black-yellow colour scheme.

"They are the same tier, but they're not".

The Lightning uses a beefy PCB and some more overclocking. It's different.

Hawk and Lightning are monikers applied to the best of the best for their respective product - Hawk for mainstream, Lightning for flagship. You're claiming that's not the same tier for marketing purposes? For this reason, you'll never see a 670 Hawk, because the 670 is not mainstream enough for the Hawk moniker. Also, go look up their 660 Hawk. Does the GPU Reactor not offer enough overclocking for you?

There's no reason for MSI not to launch a HAWK Edition GTX670. There was a GTX460 HAWK, there was an HD7870 HAWK (launched at 380$) and there's no reason what so ever that they won't launch a GTX670 HAWK, there are no certain "laws" that stop them from doing that. Of course, this is just a speculation.

There can never be a GTX 670 Hawk because the GTX 680 uses the same type of chip (GK104) and is better. It's the same reason why 660Ti didn't get the Hawk moniker this generation (and the 660 did - it uses GK106) when the previous generation 560Ti (GF114 vs the 570/580 GF110) got a Hawk release.

Too bad the MSI items I buy generally just break. That dragon does look pretty cool looking. Wonder what the whole card and motherboard will look like
