Using DDR3 1600Mhz Ram 1333Mhz Ram on Laptop
Hi Guys
Recently I bought a laptop of Dell and thought of upgrading the ram from 4gb to 8gb from there itself, so bought another 4gb ram with the already fitted one in the Laptop. I was aware of the frequency table and to use the same frequency Rams but could not find the details of the Ram in the already fitted one and as advised by the shop retailer that it will work fine, bought the other ram with less frequency which was 1333mhz. Now one of it runs in 1600mhz and the other in 1333mhz. Will it create any problem for the laptop or the speed? The laptop has been doing fine but is it allowed to keep it running with two different ram frequency. I am not interested to spend anymore on the Ram and would like to know your suggestions. |

Ram will not run at two differnt frequencies. It all runs at the slowest speed. So all your ram is now 1333 but it will work just fine. Another issues is because they are differnt they most likely runing in single channel mode which is slower.
You can download CPU-Z to see what your ram is doing and what ram it is |

Thanks for the quick response.
For the time being, I did not find any lagging whatsoever while using the applications. But will I find any improvement if I remove the 4gb 1333mhz and continue using the 4gb 1600mhz. I will download the CPU-Z and check the performance of the memory. ![]() |

Dual channel has twice the theoretical bandwidth but in real life scenarios you won't get more than 5-10% improvement. Going from 1333 to 1600 won't net much gain either.
I'd keep the 8GB unless you run into some problem. Run CPU-Z and look at the memory tab to find out if you're running in single or dual channel.

I checked it in CPUZ and found it is running in Dual Channel.
