Update bios?

I currently have the F4 bios on my MB, everything works fine, is their any need to update the bios or not? Will I get any better performance, etc?

probably not if everything is fine atm. Check GB website for BIOS release notes to see if there is anything that a newer BIOS offers that would improve things (tho as you said nothing is wrong atm)

The only reason i updated the BIOS on my AsRock was that my G510 keyboard wasn't working in BIOS under USB, i was sent a beta BIOS from support and haven't had a problem since then.

My EVGA on the other hand has a notoriously horrible shipping BIOS when ordered from Newegg, the latest BIOS fixes most of the issues that were holding the board back( Google evga z77 ftw@ newegg.ca and you will see what i mean in the reviews). Im not even installing an OS until i flash the board in DOS

You can check what has been changed with the update but probably not performance increase. And there is a change you will brick your board

The only time you really need to update the BIOS is if your are having compatibility issues with some hardware you have added to the system, that the release notes for the BIOS version claims it fixes, or for instance you are upgrading to say Windows 8, there's BIOS for all motherboard manufactures when Windows 8 released making the board compatible with Windows 8 after updating.

To me, if the current bios works on the system. Doesn't really need updating. I haven't updated the BIOS on my board since I got it as everything works fine, and stable as can be.

BIOS update usually fix issues. See the release note, if you are having any mentioned issue it will be better to update.

I like to keep my stuff updated, issues or not , whenever there is a new BIOS available I update... even bricked a motherboard in the past because of it.

I recently had to re-flash the previous BIOS when I had problems with the new one not changing the multiplier setting (Asus P8Z77-V, BIOS 1708 & 1805). I went to the manufacturers forum and saw a few others who had the same problem. Since 1805 didn't add support for new hardware, it wasn't really a necessary update anyway. So it's probably better to leave it alone if you have no problems (but I always update anyway because I'm bored!).

I personally always update. Just like anything else. Everyone says you might brick it but I have yet to and I have updated about every bios I have had for the past 7 years. Never bricked one. Follow the instructions in your user manual. And like Hood said, look at the release notes. [EXAMPLE]If it says it fixed issues with a HD4870 GPU, and your NEVER going to use a HD4870[/EXAMPLE], then don't update just for that. BUT beware because you can brick it and sometimes, it just happens. use your own judgment and decide if you want to or not.

I just bricked my first one in 15 years. RMA Funny thing was the last thing it said was "Loading crash proof bios update"

Nice to see that the Great User In The Sky still has a sense of humor! Seriously, hardware makers all seem to have issues with the simple software and firmware that runs their gear; even Asus can't make their software work properly (AI Suite II, BIOS 1805 problems, wi-fi drivers, etc.). Nothing serious, but annoying nonetheless.
