I use the News post window on the forum front page. I do agree though. There are a ton of news posts now.

I dunno. Maybe there could be News categories? There are lots of gadget articles, company behavior, people doing funny (stupid) things in the name of technology, new discoveries, company disputes, lawsuits, etc. It's getting overwhelming.

I'm not going to be Hellas' proofreader, and definitely not for free. He's churning out news item after news item, but each one has mistakes in it.

It's not about that. It's about TPU's image and credibility, and something official and helpful like having a News section influences them directly. Would you continue to order The New York Times if its articles included grammatical errors, typos, and informal words like ain't?

I like how the layout is as it is. Its just when I miss 2-3 days of news, I have to read like 30-50 news posts
(I Like to keep myself informed).I dont really like the idea of the sections though, I'd just prefer it as it was in September - May.

You could always have the news at is now (with "important" news posted) and add categories for news that isnt as "important".
For example, on the main page have the "New graphics card is released, HD2900XT" and then in a category of Video cards, have "Sapphire have released their model" and "Powercolor have increased clocks on their model" etc. It is noticable when some news articles get 50 replies and some get 0 .

Two things here ... One it's a poll ... Two W1zz asked for ideas or suggestions on the interface ... not a bash Hellas thread .. he's new, give him a break, it's something the staff is working on...

as for idea's on the interface, rather than loads of sections, i'd rather just see 2, one for hardware news (not including irrelevant usb devices etc), and one for other news |

My idea would be to let the users decide... so, for each news post, there would be a "to the top" button (don't know another appropriate name), which the user could click, and that would move the newspost to the top... the newspost with the most "to the top"s would of course be at the top, then the rest in order according to the number of "tops". There would be a separate "top" thing for each day. Not sure how difficult that would be to program though.
I'm not sure though how many users actually go through a day's worth of news, the above system doesn't bring you the important news unless someone else has read/rated them. |
