New Magnet Keyboard Concept Floats Keys

Engineers at Embotec have created a keyboard that uses the power of magnetism, instead of the traditional spring or switch, to keep keys afloat. The main advantage is the boards ability to dynamically adjust the resistance of the magnets when typing. Response times are supposedly fast enough for gamers. There is no word on price and no specific release date, although Embotec says it will debut by the end of 2007.

Wonder if that makes less noise than regular keyboard? Spring load is crusial to be just right, at least for me. Too soft and it has no feel, too hard and you'll typo all the time. Oh and those on/off keyboards are awful, like when the button clicks when pressing, so welcome innovation if it feels good and doesn't cost a fortune.

good idea but quite unnecessary and non essential, i think this design is intended on making a cheap product more expensive, id personally say the lazer sensor keyboard would is the far better idea.

I think the laser one was a cool idea, but I don't think I'd enjoy slamming my fingers against a desk repeatly when gaming I'm sure there would be some new type of "syndrome" people develop from typing hours without anything to cushion their keystrokes. You'd see someone with black and blue fingers and be like, "oh, they must have one of those new laser projection keyboards."

I love how technology advances everyday.

Good thing about magnets is, you can adjust the strength for along time and never worry about something wearing out, unlike with springs.
