Lost Planet updates

CAPCOM is about to release a few updates for Lost Planet on August the 16th. Two of these updates have been known for a while, but now it seems that two more updates are also being added. One of them is called enhanced DX10 depth of field. Which will give you a better illusion of depth perception. The second update is a new default messages system that will be added for multiplayer, lobby, and after a match.

Screenshots are shown in this order DX9/DX10 Comparison, Motion Blur, Fur Shader,Depth of Field, and in game chat.

Actually, the 360 version of Lost Planet had this 'blur' effect and it looked amazing!

But dont you think the fur on the DX10 pic looks more 'realistic' than the fur on the DX9 pic?

For me DX9 fur looks better, no way does fur keep like that other than in fashion shows.

DX10 motion blur is a sure winner (but I've seen better blurs in DX9 and not fan of it. Why would you wan't to blur a sharp texture, if there is no motion going on).

Depth of field one is a moo-point..

(Rachel: Huh. A moo point?
Joey: Yeah, it's like a cow's opinion. It just doesn't matter. It's moo.)

From my experience, some blur is terrible for screenshots, but orgasmic in gameplay .

Stop the furtalk, look at the first two screenshots too, there you can see DX10 looks way better than the DX9. DX9 is more like there was ghosting or something.

Clear differences in DX10 mode but never anywhere near the huge visual improvements some might have expected.

We're not gonna see ground breaking graphics going from DX9 to DX10, but the extra subtle details are there, be it minor ones.

Um, no it doesn't. In all honesty, small amounts of blur should remain in racing sims, not in FPS. This level of blurring makes slow moving objects look fast only illustrating a forum of motion sickness IMO. In real life (yeah I went there) motion blur only happens best from peripheral perception. Watching things blur head on just looses it's immersion. In some cases making some scenes reminiscent of some sort of dream state (depending on how much blurring head on is used). Some think this is cool but it's kiddie at best. Since most games don't allow for peripheral vision (do to lack of fov being less then 100) it makes it a bit of a gimmick moreso then anything. In truth, if one uses blurring it has to be used correctly.

screenies dont do it justice, its damned pretty in DX10 as it is.

It may look 'worse' in small pics, but i guarantee when its full screen it looks less fuzzy and more realistic - its not like the real world where you've got your face in the fur to examine it, the point of view is further away - therefore it looks fuzzier.

Humans generally dont have telescopic vision :P

Yes I can see some improvements on the DX10, and am sure that will translate into greater visuals in actual gameplay.....but is the game any good? I am far too boring and old and sensible just to buy a game cause it looks pretty.......visuals stop being so important when you become familiar with them, gameplay goes on 4 eva!

it plays like halo with mechs, and the enemies rather resemble the bugs in starship troopers.

More or less, its a short, fun game - the levels can take 10-30 min depending how fast you go, but overall its just quick fun.
