Regarding BioShock widescreen problem (pics inc)
In response to wazzledoozle's post: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showth...594#post433594
Here are some screens taken from the XBOX360 'full version' of the game (all screens taken at the exact same loading point): Settings: XBOX360 @ standard (full screen) / 32" Sony CRT @ 4:3 (full screen) ![]() Settings: XBOX360 @ widescreen / 32" Sony CRT @ 16:9 (widescreen) ![]() You can clearly see that the widescreen setting offers nothing extra to the 'field of vision' horizontally. Yet the fullscreen setting displays more at the top and bottom of the screen. So basically, its better to play the game in fullscreen (even on a widescreen TV)

Bad news - good info. I'm intersted to see if the same holds true for the PC on a WS. Tonight, I'll try it at 1600x1200 and 1920x1200 (assuming it's supported).
@ Hookey - thanks. |

I think they're just trying to level the playing field on multiplayer. Widescreen gamers DO have a slight advantage against normal-screen gamers (slightly better FOV). I have to say, while I do feel a bit low-balled...it's a fair move, all things considered.

I love it.
All you people bitching at me for revealing why devs use this method. Who's laughing now?

In this setup, widescreen gamers would be at a disadvantage due to the top and bottom being chopped off. But its doesnt matter, because Bioshock is single-player ONLY!

Widescreen gaming is the way forward, if they have the same mentality as EA on widescreen, why include it in the game? Silly buggers - I want my 16:10 - don't care what all you jealous, 4:3 asshats think. Screw you all off. 4:3 is so old school.

Then why waste your time, spitting out your pointless opinion? I don't care that it works for you, I only care that it's not working properly for me.

I dont see widescreen truely coming into a level playinf field until everyone owns a widescreen... which could take some years to happen. Hell even I dont own a widescreen, why? because I really dont give two shits about widescreen.

I've got a widescreen at home and work... like it better than your narrow feild of view old school CRT loving Commodore 64 freak equipment.
Seriously... I hope they patch it. Widescreen rocks! (But only if it's 1920x1200 or more).

Just had it dawned on me... 'debating' over screen aspect ratios. Welcome to the world geeks live in. Must admit, it is amusing. Meh, my widescreen monitor is the best thing I've ever bought.
