SanDisk Intros ExpressCard Adapter

SanDisk Corporation today launched the SanDisk Multi Card ExpressCard Adapter, offering fast transfer speeds from memory cards to notebook computers without the need to carry cables or external card readers. The announcement was made at IFA, the world's largest consumer electronics show, where SanDisk is exhibiting at Booth 130, in Hall 15.1 of Messe Berlin. The new adapter fits into the ExpressCard slot now found in most new notebook computers, and accepts six card formats: SD, SDHC, MultiMediaCard, MMCplus, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo and Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo. The SanDisk Multi Card ExpressCard Adapter is expected to available in North America and Europe in September, with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $29.99 in the United States. Suggested retail pricing in Europe is yet to be announced.

I think this is a waste of time to be brutally honest - fast file transfers are cool but not really nessary.

let me break it down.....

-> Most laptops these days would come with a build in card reader - in this case, mind has a built in Mem stick Pro Duo card reader built in

-> Appliances you will use - Mp3 players, digi cams, mobile fones etc already come with data cables to connect to a pc so buying a cardreader that offers faster read/write speeds its a bit of a no brainer as your not going to leave everything until the very last moment before your about to bleed to death to zip all your files over - so speed really doesnt matter, chances are you'l be chilling out, kicking back with a bong & a rather large cup of tea while your transfering files over from a digicam.

Its just one of the accessories that would be cool to have but its not really needed.

so the question you really have to ask yourself to justify buying one of these card readers....

Are you in that much of a rush?

Ive never heard or seen anybody walking through fire just to transfer files over. so speed alone doesnt justify this waste of market space

I like the faster transfers brought about by my card reader. I'm an impatient person. lol

Ummm, my reader cost me $9 at Wal-Mart. Hardly an expensive item.

And if you have time to waste, then by all means, use your transfer cable.

How do you know it's PCIe? Express Slot also carries a USB interface.

Look, you can't argue about this. USB AND PCIe are both part of the Express Card standard. Read the link I provided. Your laptop should also carry USB in the Express Card interface, if not, it is not compliant with the standard.

When you are transferring a couple of GBs at a time, the time saved adds up.

And no, it's not a waste of time. It may be a waste to you, and that's perfectly acceptable, but to others it is not.
